About me

Do you want to take control of your life? Are you ready to take the first step?

I can help you.

Sometimes life can feel like a stuck record, can't it? The same old problems keep coming back or they just won’t go away.  At other times you may feel a bit lost or held back from achieving your hopes or dreams. It can all feel a bit too much.

Perhaps you've been depressed or anxious for some time or have other longer term mental health issues. Maybe you're experiencing relationship or family problems that are wearing you down.  You could have lost someone close to you and are struggling to process it. Or the mojo you once had is gone and you want to get it back.

Your therapy sessions can also help you to develop your self-awareness. This is a useful tool to have when making those important, positive changes to your life.

Taking the first step can often be daunting, but it's a process we'll do together. And you'll be fully supported every step of the way.

Why Work With Me?

I have worked as a psychotherapist since 2011 and love it.  This means I've oodles of experience of working with adult individuals and couples. Like many of the clients I see, I've been around the block a few times in own my life too.

I'm a friendly soul who will offer an honest, caring and supportive environment for you to work through your challenges. I'll be right by your side.

Can counselling Help You?

You'll be pleased to know, yes it can. How do I know? Through my own experience in therapy and also the change I see in my clients. Therapy can offer you the opportunity to really get to grips with who you are. And you will have the time and space you need to explore any difficulties or issues you may be experiencing.

I have a huge passion for counselling and psychotherapy - from my studies, experience and my own therapeutic journey. I know this process works.

If you're interested in starting therapy, I'd love to hear from you.

Feel free to get in touch with me. Email or text are best and I'll come back to you quickly, usually by text. We will arrange a short telephone call which usually lasts around 10 to 15 minutes when we can talk about what you want to cover in therapy. I will also let you know how I work so you can decide if my style is right for you.  I don't charge for this call and no actual therapy happens on it - we simply stick to the facts and keep it brief. If you want to go ahead, we'll arrange a first meeting when an appointment fee will be payable.

I also run a low cost therapy service to people who are unemployed or on low incomes. It's important that therapy is accessible to everyone, so I'm doing my bit to make this happen.

About Me

I trained for 4 years in clinical psychotherapy and have a Level 7 Post-graduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy (TA). This is equivalent to Master's level and was thorough. During my training, I was assessed by a UKCP trainer and have the skills to work with the general public. I am also a registered member of BACP. This means I have passed their proficiency test and am on their professional register.

I have a real interest in people. Stuff like behaviour, personality, why we do the things we do…. that sort of thing. And there's nothing better than helping people achieve their goals and bring about positive change for themselves.

I started my own therapeutic journey many years ago.  Along with my training, it's one of the best things I've done in my life. I have first-hand experience of the benefits therapy can give – inner calmness, a greater understanding of self, why we do the things we do.

Ultimately, a much more positive and happier life. It's is the one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and one you totally deserve.

If you decide to work with me, I will treat you with honesty, integrity and respect. Together we will look at what you want to get from therapy. We'll then agree a way forward and work together so you get changes you want. The relationship between us is important. So, we'll spend time building this, going at a pace you feel comfortable with.

I guess you need to know I don’t have a magic wand unfortunately. And I can’t just make your problems go away.  I simply don't have that power. But I will be there to guide you when needed, offering you relevant and honest input. I can also teach you the basics of some simple psychotherapy models too, so you have a better understanding of yourself and your life.

I use a variety of techniques which help clients strengthen and heal themselves. These can be tailored to suit your individual needs.

Areas of interest and experience include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Loss and Bereavement
  • Family issues including estrangement
  • Relationship issues
  • Low confidence and self esteem issues
  • Workplace issues

The Practice

I offer in-person and online appointments.

My main in-person practice is based in a garden outbuilding separate from my house in Levenshulme, South Manchester. The therapy room offers a confidential, cosy and supportive space for you. Here, you will be safe to explore your thoughts and feelings.

I also work at The Didsbury Counselling and Therapy Centre in West Didsbury.

How long do I need to come for?

This depends upon what's bringing you therapy Some people attend for a few sessions - they may have a specific issue to work through. Deeper and more complex issues generally require longer term work.

Location

The practice is based in Levenshulme and is 3 miles south of Manchester city centre. It is also within easy reach of Chorlton, Didsbury, Sale, Altrincham, the four Heatons and Stockport.

There are great bus (50, 168, 192, 197) and rail links (Levenshulme Train Station is a 10 minute walk away) for those using public transport or for people coming from further afield.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
