Nageena Choudhry MBACP MA PGDIP, Young People & Adult Counsellor/Psycotherapist
I am a qualified child and adult person centred counsellor/psychotherapist based in Derby, with several years’ experience of working both within the care service and education. I am a member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
My approach to therapy is primarily person centred building a relationship on respect, honesty, empathy and trust within a non-judgemental setting. As each client is unique I do integrate other models to suit individual client needs and expectations. I will create a safe environment for you, listen to you and give you the space and time to help you to work on your issues and problems.
Talking with an experienced therapist can help to deepen your own understanding of your personal difficulties. It can help you to find more successful ways of managing your life and help you to feel less isolated. It can be really helpful to talk with someone who is not directly or emotionally involved but who may be relied on for short-term or long-term emotional support, without becoming overwhelmed by your experience.
I will always strive to work with you as an individual coping with personal and unique life events - even in circumstances where you have already been given a diagnosis by another mental health professional. I don't see myself as an expert on how you should live your life; I won't tell you what to do. I will, however, support you, as we explore whatever you want to bring - from your past or your present - to our sessions.
I offer daytime and evening appointments. I would be happy to meet you for a stand-alone, one-off session if you don't feel ready to commit to more. You can phone or email me for more information before making an initial appointment, if you prefer. I have over 15 years experience in working with families, children and young people. I also have a background working with the BME community, youth work and mental health.
I am experienced in counselling for anxiety, stress management, depression, panic attacks, eating disorders, relationship problems, domestic abuse, sexual abuse, bereavement, suicide, self-harm and complex grief.
