About me

I am a clinical psychologist, a cognitive analytic therapist, and an EMDR therapist. As a clinical psychologist I have expertise in most areas of mental and emotional health, and particular areas of interest. These are people with early childhood and complex trauma, people with autism spectrum conditions and people with functional neurological disorders such as non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD). I have experience of working with a range of difficulties including depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, body dysmorphic and eating disorders, relationship problems and self-harm.

When I meet an individual, I work with them initially to develop a clear understanding of what may have led to the problem, and what keeps it going. When we both have a shared understanding, we can then work together to find solutions to the problem using the most appropriate approach. I tend to use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), cognitive analytic therapy (CAT) or EMDR, but also draw on other approaches and techniques such as compassion focussed therapy. Most people that I work with have between 8 and 16 sessions, depending on their needs.

I am experienced in working with children, adults and couples. I am also experienced in working with people on the autism spectrum who may need some adaptations to the way therapy is provided.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a professional doctorate in clinical psychology, which I completed in 2009. Prior to this I had worked as a voluntary bereavement counsellor and as a carer for people with learning disabilities, and older adults with dementia. I worked in learning disability services in Essex for two years as an Assistant Psychologist.

After qualifying as a clinical psychologist at The University of Essex-Tavistock, I worked in an NHS Child and Family Consultation Service (CFCS). In this role I supported children who were struggling with mental health difficulties and their families. I also assessed children for developmental conditions such as ADHD and autism. I then worked in an NHS adult mental health services for a number of years, I trained as a Cognitive Analytic Therapy(CAT) Practitioner and an EMDR therapist. I worked with adults with complex mental health difficulties and trauma. I also assessed adults with mental health difficulties and ASD.

I worked privately alongside working in the NHS, and then in 2016 I worked privately full-time at the Stockwell Centre in Colchester, Essex. I very much enjoyed my time there until I decided to move to Kent. I now work in an NHS service part-time, and enjoy the balance of also working privately at the clinic in Ramsgate. As well as providing individual and couple therapy, I continue to carry out private autism assessments in Essex and in Kent with both children and adults.
