Munpreet Kaur Flora HCPC Reg. M.A. Creative Arts Therapist
Do you feel stressed, worried, hurt or lost?
Are you losing hope or grieving? Has something happened?
Or is work or family life simply too hard to manage?
Do you worry about being a burden?
You are not alone.
I specialise in creative arts therapy - this means that as well as speaking about the problem, we can use metaphors, stories, and art/drama materials to help explore and express what you're feeling.
Anyone can benefit from this type of therapy, it's all about being open to understanding yourself and together finding ways to manage your emotions.
We would start the intervention by setting out an agreement, to ensure that you feel safe throughout the intervention. Trust takes time to build and I take the importance of it very seriously. We would then explore elements of your life, giving you space and time to show me your world. Together we can discover what is making you feel the way you do - and if it is a combination of elements.
You are always in control of how much or how little you share, and we can work at the pace that suits you best.
Many of us feel the toll of daily life build up. This service can help you get to the root of the problem and start again with a fresh approach and perspective.
I am culturally aware and sensitive, and have respect for all faith backgrounds - I have a lot of experience in interfaith work and working with people from different communities.
I've been working with clients for around 4 years and love having the opportunity to help. Feel free to contact me to book a free consultation.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Drama and Movement Therapist (Sesame), registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), with experience both as a clinical therapist and as a clinical supervisor.
I have worked with individuals of all ages, couples and families, in settings as diverse as schools, community centres and nursing homes.
My clients have needed support with a range of difficulties, including: anger management, relationship development, parenting skills, mediation, bereavement, loss, life-threatening illnesses, trauma and abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse, dementia, depression, self-esteem and anxiety.
I've added an anonymous case study to help you understand how this works. More can be found on my website.
CASE STUDY 1: THE BOGGART
12 week intervention: 15 year old with severe anxiety in crowds and large spaces. Was unable to function independently at times.
Client had many fears of other people and crowds in general when she began the intervention. We began by looking at her fears and addressing what elements scared her. We also worked closely with the concept of emotions, using contemporary film characters to help illustrate the ideas we were exploring.
Over the weeks she began to create techniques to refocus her emotions, gain control over her thoughts and feel protected from the outside world. These included: physically creating her personal space, manifesting her fears (like a boggart) and finding ways to laugh at them, and looking at all her emotions separately and choosing who to put in charge of her behaviours at any given time.
It took time for her to fully adjust and accept the change in her thought patterns. She now presents with a higher degree of self-confidence and self-esteem. She is also able to shut out the world and focus on herself. She shared that she no longer feels scared and can engage in activities she previously excluded herself from. She quoted:
“Working on my anxiety using my imagination and characters that make me feel safe, has given me the power to overcome my fear. I can now remind myself that I am in charge of my emotions and that I can control how I choose to feel.”
