About me
Does your child struggle to talk about their thoughts and feelings?
Do they struggle to understand their emotions?
Art Therapy could help.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art making alongside talking with a qualified Art Therapist. I have extensive experience of working with children and young people in order to support their emotional and psychological wellbeing. My approach is warm and flexible which allows me to tailor each creative intervention to the needs of the client.
In Art Therapy sessions, we use art, play and movement to create a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings without pressure. Art Therapy has been shown to benefit clients by reducing symptoms of anxiety, low mood and supporting emotional regulation. Children and young people can begin to understand their emotions and learn how to better communicate with those around them.
There is no expectation that a client must be “good” at art making, in fact it is much more important to focus on the process of making, rather than how the images look. I supply art materials which can include paint, pens, pencils, clay, playdough, fidget toys, slime making and more. This provides a space which allows clients to explore themes non-verbally and in a safe way. I develop creative interventions to adapt to each client’s developmental, psychological and emotional needs.
Art Therapy can help children and young people who have Autism, ADHD, anxiety, difficulty with emotional regulation, school avoidance, self harm, low self-esteem. Art Therapy can provide an opportunity for children and young people to open up within a safe space in order to regulate their emotions and reduce anxieties.
