About me
I am a fully qualified Dip H.E. counsellor and a full member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) and work to their ethical framework. I offer exclusively On-line counselling using Skype , WhatsApp or Zoom platforms.
As I work online only I have a specialised BACP/Open University Online qualification, this included texting, email and video conferencing.
I have worked in the voluntary sector for “Change, Grow & Live” working in house as an addiction counsellor. I was also a supervisor for the “The Forward Trust”, both nationwide organisations in the UK, supporting people with homelessness, addiction, and poor mental health. I have also worked in a community counselling setting with Ashford Counselling Service and Kent Counsellors.
I currently work for BetterHelp the biggest Online therapy platform in the world.
I work with a wide range of emotional and psychological health difficulties including, anxiety, depression, addiction, borderline and narcissistic personality issues, relationship, and family problem’s, divorce, bereavement and other forms of loss, low self-esteem, trauma related dissociation, Identity/sexual orientation issues and sexual abuse.
I have been trained in a modern integral approach to incorporate a wide range of counselling techniques and models including, Psychodynamic, CBT, Existential and Humanistic styles.
Whatever way we decide to work, whatever the approach I always start by listening and tuning into your experience, to gain a greater understanding of the reasons you have decided to seek counselling. Through our work together I will help you become both more comfortable with who you are and more accepting of yourself, less anxious and self-critical.
I came into this work by way of personal and professional evolution and had to recognise and put right the legacy of my childhood experiences. I had to look at the ways I learned to adapt as a child and those adaptations that followed me into adolescence and adulthood. Through my own personal therapy experience I developed and qualified as a counsellor/therapist. I laugh and curse and you will always know you are with a real human being! I bring a rich life experience around family issues, stepfamilies, and modern eclectic family life, giving me personal insight into the complex world of family dynamics. I worked extensively in the music business as a working musician and sound engineer for many years and understand creativity.
I have Skype, Zoom and WhatsApp platforms available. My rates are £45 per 50 min session and concessions and sliding scales for low income or unemployed are available.
More details of how I work can be found on my website www.mstevenstherapy.com

I have been trained in a modern Integrative approach which means I use a wide range of different counselling techniques such as CBT, Humanistic, Psychotherapy, Existential and Gestalt Therapy. I believe that better self-awareness can achieve a higher sense of emotional and psychological wellbeing and lead to more effective and happier choices in life. There are many similarities between counselling and psychotherapy, and both seek to create a relationship where you as a client can find more effective inner resources to better understand your problems, therefore my approach is always tailored to individual need and what might work best for you.
Whatever way we decide to work, whatever the approach I always start by listening and tuning into your experience, to gain a greater understanding of the reasons you have decided to seek counselling. Through our work together I will help you become both more comfortable with who you are and more accepting of yourself, less anxious and self-critical.
It can be a difficult decision when going into counselling and a key moment in one’s life.
I have a continued commitment to learning as part of my continued professional development and undertake a range of different courses on a monthly basis. I also have monthly supervision.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
