Mig Bennett Relationship Counselling. MBACP. Cert.CC (Relate). ATSAC
I am a specialist relationship counsellor with over twenty years’ experience of working with couples and, more recently, with pornography and sex addiction.
Couples counselling has been described as ‘like piloting a helicopter in a hurricane’. Hence the necessity an expert and experienced therapist in the skills required. I provide relationship counselling both privately and for Relate, with whom I qualified in 1996.
Although over 80% of my work is with couples, I also see individuals regarding their relationship issues. My clients may be married, co-habiting, single, separated and of any sexual orientation.
I work with individuals and/or their partners where pornography, online sexual encounters or use of sex workers is negatively affecting their lives and relationships. I am working towards a level 5 Diploma in Sex Addiction Counselling through the Institute for Sex Addiction Training (ISAT), one of the only two institutions in the UK providing this qualification.
Affairs and betrayal, separation and divorce, sexual issues, communication patterns, life stage changes, 'the neglected relationship', pornography and sex addiction, grief and loss and ‘creating something better’ are some of the many relationship issues I encounter. Look at my website ‘Case Scenarios’ tab for examples. http://www.migbennettrelationshipcounselling.co.uk/case-scenarios/
I am based in Crowborough and generally work with clients from East Sussex and West Kent. It may be possibly to use Skype once we have started working face to face.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have undertaken many and varied counselling training modules over the years including communication, attachment, loss and grief, affairs and betrayal, separation and divorce and working with sexual issues.
I predominantly use three therapeutic approaches:
# psycho-dynamic (looking at how significant figures from the past can influence us today)
# systemic (focusing on how changing one partner's behaviour will change the other's)
# transactional analysis (enabling us to look at our ineffective communication patterns and create better ones).
I am a registered MBACP. (Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I am a general member of COSRT (College of Sexual and Relationship Counsellors).
I am a student member of ATSAC (Association for the a Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity)
