I have a compassionate and accepting nature. I enjoy the human connection which is possible in the therapeutic setting. I gain deep satisfaction from supporting people in their growth and development and love to witness people make changes in their life which they never thought possible.
I have over 30 years experience working in private practice and the NHS. This gives me a wealth of knowledge and a variety of experience to draw upon to support you as you work through the difficulties you are facing.
To achieve the outcomes you are looking for it is important for us to develop a strong relationship so if we meet and you don’t feel understood by me or that I “get you” then let me know because I may not the right person for you. Also if I feel that I cannot be of help to you then I will let you know as I do not want you to get in the way of your wellbeing.
This honesty and transparency is important to me and is central to the way I work.
I started my career in 1985 working in a child psychiatric unit at High Royds Hospital, Menston. I trained as a psychiatric nurse in York and worked there for several years. I have a psychology degree from Lancaster University. I trained in psychotherapy in Manchester and have been in private practice since 1996.
In my clinical work I have helped hundreds of people from a variety of social backgrounds and psychological needs. This ranges from people with diagnosed psychiatric disorders to people facing stress and difficulties which they are finding too hard to deal with on their own. This is when counselling and psychotherapy can be the turning point in dealing with difficulties.
People seek counselling and psychotherapy to:
Take control of our life;
Reduce conflict: internal and interpersonal;
Address relationship issues;
Deal with depression;
Find meaning and purpose in life;
Overcome difficult feelings: anxiety, anger, grief, fear;
Deal with stress;
Achieve personal growth;
Cope with psychiatric illness;
Increase the quality of our relationships;
Deal with panic attacks;
Overcome repetitive life patterns;
Learn new parenting skills;
Overcome sexual difficulties: past or present;
Deal with domestic abuse: past or present;
Deal with self-limiting beliefs;

I have over 30 years experience working in private practice and the NHS. When I originally started my private practice in 1997 I worked a lot with people with depression, bi-polar, schizophrenia, psychosis and other diagnosed mental health issues.
Today, I find the people who come to me are experiencing depression, relationship difficulties, anger issues, stress, people who wish to get out of repetitive life patterns and who want to make more of their life (without necessarily knowing how) to find a deeper happiness. So I tend to help people move beyond their "initial crisis" so that they can live a fulfilling and authentic life.
