About me

Well done in taking the first steps in seeking a counsellor. My name is Michelle and I am a BACP registered counsellor. I work with a variety of different individuals, experiencing a range of different mental health difficulties.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I can work with different counselling approaches depending on the needs of the client. Every client is different and I believe that different clients will benefit from different approaches, depending on their difficulties. The client knows themselves best, my aim is to encourage clients to explore and understand themselves and their troubles. I offer a confidential and non-judgemental space for you to talk about the difficulties your are faced with.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a counsellor in 2017 so I have 7 years experience in various sectors. I worked for a charity working with children and adults who have experienced abuse. During my time here I also worked in a high school with teenagers who were struggling with anxiety and low self-esteem as well as exam stress.

I decided in 2019 to branch out on my own and start my own counselling practice. During this time I have worked with a lot of different clients coming with various difficulties. I have vast experience working with anxiety disorders such as OCD, Emetophobia and Generalised Anxiety Disorder. During this time I also worked for 6 months at a local college counselling students and staff.

In 2023 I bought a counselling business in the heart of Whitley Bay called Azure Therapy. I now run this business along with seeing clients.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
