Michelle Scott-Barnes MBACP
Receiving counselling is not a sign of weakness. It takes enormous courage to address problem areas and examine painful feelings. Entering into counselling is taking that first step in resolving the difficulties you may be experiencing. The focus is solely on you; who you are and how you relate to the world. Together we can work towards new ways of looking at problem areas and new ways of handling those problems.
My approach to healing and transformation is informed by my belief in an authentic, trusting and non-judgmental therapeutic relationship.
I will work hard to listen and connect with you and tailor therapies to individual specific needs as no two people are the same. You will experience a warm and compassionate atmosphere in which to freely explore their thoughts, feelings, strengths and weaknesses.
My therapeutic orientations focus on Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches, which often involve exploring past relationships and experiences that may have contributed to current conflicts and interpersonal patterns. I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) if appropriate and required.
I am also very passionate about my work with young people and have extensive experience working within the 14 - 24 years age group. I currently work for the YMCA - Heads Together Service.
I am fully insured and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their professional code of ethical framework for good practice.
I am able to offer various early evening appointments and Saturday mornings depending on availability.
