About me

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP)and adhere to their Ethical Framework.

I provide a confidential therapeutic environment where you will feel safely supported to explore issues that may be of concern to you. These may be specific concerns - bereavement, relationship difficulties, addiction, difficulties at work or in your social life. Or you may feel depressed, stressed, anxious or a have general dissatisfaction with life that you may wish to understand in more depth.

I firmly believe in the importance of building a strong therapeutic relationship, in trust and honesty and that having the opportunity to talk to an individual not personally involved in your situation can help you to see things more clearly and support you to find ways to  make different choices.

I am also a qualified supervisor and offer clinical supervision for counsellors and counsellors in training.

Training, qualifications & experience

My main qualifications in counselling are:

  • Advanced Diploma in Person Centred Therapeutic Counselling.
  • BPS Approved Certificate in Clinical Supervision.
  • Certificate in Mindfulness CBT from Oxford Mindfulness Centre.

I keep my knowledge up to date by regularly attending Continuing Professional Development workshops, courses, conferences covering specialist counselling subjects. I also attend regular supervision.

I have worked as a professional counsellor for twenty years. Counselling young people over the age of seventeen, adults and adults with learning disability, autism, Asperger's.

I have worked in a Youth Counselling Service, an agency supporting people with addictions, secondary schools and two Further Education Colleges.

I have also run my own private practice for the past eight years.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Fees

£50.00 per session

Additional information

I would suggest that sessions take place on a weekly basis at the same time and on the same day. I charge £50 for a 50 minute counselling session.

I do have some concessionary places available.

Supervision sessions are also an hour in duration for which I charge £60

For the first session I offer a half an hour 'assessment session' free of charge. This is to give you an opportunity to meet me and decide whether I am the right person for you to work with. It also give us both the opportunity to discuss what you are looking for from counselling.
