About me

Choosing the right counsellor for you is vitally important. For therapy to be effective you need to like and be able to trust your counsellor, who will begin the relationship as a stranger. I can offer you kindness and understanding, a place of refuge and calm, a space to share and be yourself, without judgement or criticism. I can provide you with a one off initial consultation in person or over the phone, so you can decide whether I am the right person for you.

My name is Michelle Baden,  MBACP, Couns Prof Dips, and I am a qualified integrative counsellor based in Saltford, Bristol. I can offer you therapy sessions to give you the time and space to work through any issues you are experiencing, whatever that they be.

I am a deeply nurturing person and I care for each and every client I work with. I offer a space you can be accepted and respected no matter what you have been through

I offer a number of short and long term solutions to suit your needs, alongside my regular weekly talking therapy:

  • Rewind therapy - A powerful 'reprogramming' technique to help reduce or remove: Anxiety, phobias, OCD, and traumatic flashbacks. This is a brief but highly effective therapy which only requires 1-3 sessions.

Most appointments are held face to face in my counselling room in Saltford, however I do also offer telephone or online counselling

Previous to becoming a counsellor I worked in the business sector so I have direct experience of the difficulties of long hours and high stress environments, including the impact this can have on your relationships, family and self esteem.

If you are a new Mother or are suffering with post natal depression and childcare is difficult, I happily encourage bringing baby along to sessions with you. I can cuddle baby while you take time to talk about yourself

I have a wealth of life experience and have been through my own problems in the past. This gives me a pragmatic, nurturing, positive and down to earth approach with my clients.
I am a mother and understand the hardships and vulnerabilities of the first few years, taking the time to look after yourself can make all the difference.

Here's what a few of my clients had to say about me:

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your time, support, patience etc, etc (too much to mention)...I wouldn't be where I am now without you

I just wanted to say thank you really for your support... It has been ridiculously hard but I already know that it has been worth it and I couldn't have got through it without you. Your caring, kind and non-judgemental personality is what makes you a fantastic counsellor... I'm now ready to move forward with the rest of my life - a stronger and more determined person

I have trained in a variety of ways and can tailor sessions to suit you, whether that be short term solution focused therapy, CBT, mindfulness or relaxation techniques, we can find a way to work for you. I am particularly experienced in working with people suffering from trauma; recent or historical, abuse; physical, sexual or mental, childhood emotional neglect, chronic/ long term / repeated episodes of depression and anxiety, post natal depression, relationship (including family) issues, work related stress and bereavement

Training, qualifications & experience

MBACP
Professional Diploma in Counselling
I worked as a counsellor for the NHS for a number of years in Bristol, working with clients with a huge range of issues
I am a member of the dissociation friendly therapists, and I have completed training courses for working with clients who have suffering severe trauma, Dissociation Identity Disorder (including all of its various forms) and PTSD

I am a fully trained Rewind Therapy counsellor, helping those with phobias, anxiety, PTSD, traumatic flashbacks and OCD. This is a short term, effective therapy for 're-programming' painful emotional memories. This treatment can sometimes be very short; 1-3 sessions for which I charge more - £50 per session. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
