Michaela Hill BSc (Hons) MBACP Counselling for Adults & Young People (14-18)
If you are experiencing a difficult or distressing time in your personal or working life it can be helpful to talk to a qualified counsellor. I provide a friendly and empathic approach to counselling, working alongside you to help you come to terms with aspects of your life and find positive ways forward. You may have experienced a recent sad or traumatic event, or experiencing difficult circumstances/relationships which you are finding hard to cope with. Or sometimes challenging and complex feelings such as anger, frustration, anxiety, depression or a deep sense of loss may be difficult to understand and work through. Or perhaps you would just like to gain a sense of yourself and regain some control in your life.
My primary concern in therapy is to create a warm and respectful relationship that would help you feel safe to express your concerns as openly as you can.
My approach is informed by various bodies of therapeutic knowledge including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Person Centred Counselling and Mindfulness, enabling me to adapt my approach to suit your needs.
Working from home, my therapy room is comfortable, peaceful and private and I am able to offer flexible appointments. Both short term and long term confidential counselling is available.
Training, qualifications & experience
My experience includes working both with adults and young people, in different mental health organisations and substance abuse organisations across North Somerset and also more recently in schools and GP practices as a school and youth counsellor.
I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of adult clients, with problems including anxiety, loss, relationship struggles, work related stress, depression, addiction, low self-esteem and anger.
Through professional and personal experience I have a special interest in;
- Carer's experience and needs
- The transition of women's lives and menopause
- Family relationships
- Social anxiety
My professional work has always been focused upon supporting peoples' psychological health and encouraging change which feeds their personal sense of well being.
I enjoy working with young people helping them to explore their problems in a gentle and non judgemental way using a helpful mix of artistic medium and CBT to unlock and help them make sense of their feelings. Experience includes;
- self harm
- suicidal feelings
- academic pressure
- low self-esteem
- Self identification
