About me

Welcome to my counselling and therapy services at the Road To Change. The word journey is much used in today's culture. I consider life to be the greatest journey of all, on a road to change from birth to death, with many twists and turns, with plenty of forward and sometimes backward steps along the way. My aim is to help you on your journey, wherever you are presently and where you wish your next steps to take you, at a pace and destination of your choosing.

I provide counselling and therapy, based on a person-centred approach, which is non-directive counselling. For some clients I may use inner child therapy, exploring how your emotions are driven by your inner child, then using that awareness to re-parent the inner child to help change occur. Others, I also offer solution focused brief therapy, a short term approach and I can also coach you to help overcome issues and achieve your goals.

I am a registered member of the BACP, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, adhering to their Ethical Framework for Good Practice. I have regular supervision and have professional insurance. I have an Enhanced DBS (CRB).

I use a room in Churchtown,Southport and on an exceptional basis I can arrange home visits.

I have wide experience in counselling clients suffering from the affects of bereavement during adulthood and the lasting impact of bereavement in childhood and teenage years.

Issues which can be triggered as a result of bereavement include depression, loneliness, isolation, sadness, social withdrawal, anxiety, relationship breakdown, guilt, anger, low self-esteem, financial worries, lack of confidence, lack of purpose, stress, suicidal thoughts,  coping and family issues.

During counselling I have successfully guided clients to work on self image, configurations of self, using Person-centred, Integrative and Brief Therapy for adjusting to life's changes.

I provide a confidential, supportive and when necessary, a challenging environment to resolving issues.

In additional to my private practice I also see clients on a voluntary basis at The Philippi Trust in Southport.

Other agencies for whom I have provided counselling include:-

Listening Ear, Halewood, seeing clients in Kirkby.

I have a sliding scale of fees, dependant on income. I do not want lack of finances to be a reason not to have counselling.

The first session is a 30 minute assessment to discuss your needs and is free, after which sessions last an hour and cost between £12 and £45, depending on income.

My Background.

I worked in IT in the Civil Service and Corporate Retail  sectors for over 25 years and know the impact of workplace stress, and trying to juggle many priorities at work and home.

I retrained as a counsellor after taking voluntary redundancy in 2009, qualifying in 2013. Since then I have worked at Liverpool Bereavement Service, Listening Ear and I currently volunteer at the Philippi Trust in Southport.

I have training in spiritual accompaniment for those struggling with their faith. Different rates apply fir this service, so please contact me for further information.

Feedback from private and voluntary work.

"I cannot thank you enough. If I hadn't come to counselling I think I would have tried to commit suicide again"

"This really has worked for me, improving my relationship with my wife and the quality of my life in so many ways. I din't think counselling was for me, but it has certainly worked."
