About me

At times we can all experience life situations and events that feel very overwhelming. It may create feelings of anger, stress, being unable to cope with everyday situations, feelings of sadness, of being low, frustration or powerlessness or a general sense of stuckness. It can impact on relationships and friendships, working life and emotional and mental wellbeing. Sometimes it may be hard to find someone to talk to who will understand and appreciate what it is that you may be experiencing. At times it may just be too difficult to work out what is going on for you.

My focus is to explore with you not only the current issues that you are experiencing but also to look at the root causes of your difficulties and to work with any patterns and behaviours that feel unhelpful and which are impacting on your quality of life. Together we will work towards positive change and self empowerment so that you can enjoy and embrace a more rewarding future.

My main interest is working with Men in Therapy as I appreciate how hard it can be for a man to access therapy to begin with due to male expectations. It may take a few attempts or a point of crisis to think about therapy and my aim is to work very much with you on the many expectations and myths that exist around what it is to be a Man in todays world and the challenges that present themselves.  I recognise the benefits of talking and working through life events to make you the best possible person you can be.

In addition,  I also have an interest in working with LGBTQ+ clients, working with issues that can present themselves within sexual and gender identity which can sometimes feel overwhelming, confusing, non inclusive and non accepting.

My practice is purely based Online, offering both short term and long term counselling for both individuals and couples. Online Therapy has many benefits in that it allows you to be in your own space for the therapy sessions to happen, thus taking away some of the anxiety that can exist when in a face to face setting, also it doesn't require you travel and the therapy can be either via video, instant chat messages or email, giving a greater opportunity to explore what is going on for you.

Send me a message, book a call or telephone me and we can look at how therapy can help you overcome what you are going through. I look forward to hearing from you.

Experience

Currently I work solely in private practice,  which I have developed over many years, working with varying issues during this time. I have also been fortunate enough to work with young people and adolescence for many years and previously worked for a local Young Peoples Counselling Organisation. Although I continue to work with this age group in a private capacity I also offer therapy to Individual Adults and Couples. I have also previously worked for a Sexual Health Charity so am comfortable in talking about issues relating to sexual health and sexual intimacy together with LGBTQ+ issues and working with Men in Therapy.

As a Psychodynamic Counsellor my aim is to firstly provide a warm, friendly, confidential and professional environment in which you can explore the issues that you feel need addressing. We will look at the underlying issues that are causing these difficulties and work towards change and self discovery.

I am fully insured and am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) abiding by their ethical framework and guidelines. I am also an Accredited Counsellor with the National Counselling Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and a member of the Association for Counselling & Therapy Online (ACTO)  . All my work is fully supervised and I am professionally insured. I also regularly attend continuous professional development training opportunities

I am committed to providing a safe, non judgemental space to all my clients and maintain a very professional approach to my work. I will attend training courses on a regular basis to ensure that my work continues to meet these standards, thus increasing my knowledge and understanding in the best interest of those I work with.

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I am a fully trained and experienced counsellor and have been in practice for over 20 years. However, this is not where I started out life and worked for over 17 years within an office environment before deciding to undergo a career change into the therapeutic world, which was a result of my own life journey. Naturally this has also allowed me to follow a path that I have seen as very rewarding in many ways and it is hugely satisfying to see clients move forward and grow, leaving therapy often in a better place.

My current counselling role sees me working both in a short term and long term way, depending on what you need. It is pulling on skills and knowledge that I have built up through my continuous training and professional development as well as through my own life experiences and choices. I recognise how challenging that journey is and how hard it can be to seek support and engage with counselling but I have also witnessed the huge benefits it can bring so I always encourage that leap of faith to see what maybe.
