About me
I have over 30 years of counselling experience. I am a BACP Senior Accredited therapist and an ACC Registered Counsellor. I have my own private practice based in Lisburn and offer both short and long term counselling to individual clients. I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where you can openly talk about the issues that have brought you to counselling. I seek to build a warm, working alliance/relationship where you can tell your unique story and work through the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that trouble you. Each session lasts 50 mins and a short review is carried out after every 6 sessions.
Spending time in counselling can help you better understand who you are and what you would like out of life. It can also help you build better relationships, work through past losses and trauma, and set goals for the future. I can help you look at the following issues - abuse, anxiety, bereavement, Cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, depression, health-related issues, identity issues, loss, post-traumatic stress, redundancy, relationships, self esteem, spirituality, stress, trauma, and work related issues.
Training, qualifications & experience
I originally came from a Nursing and Health Care background which included working in the Oncology sector. I have a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Person-centred therapy (QUB). Although I trained as a Person-centred therapist initially, I currently work from a more integrative approach where I tailor interventions to suit client needs. I also offer body-focused therapy.
I have experience working in the Community/Voluntary sector, with the Health & Social Care Trust (EAP sector) and in Private Practice.
I previously lectured in Counselling at both the Belfast Metropolitan College and the South Eastern Regional College, teaching to Diploma level.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Association of Christians in Counselling and Linked Professions (ACC) is a Christian professional membership organisation for those involved in counselling/psychotherapy and linked professions, i.e. pastoral care, coaching and spiritual direction, in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
