About me

I am a fully qualified integrative Counsellor and psychotherapist who is Registered with the BACP (the professional body for counsellors). Whether you have or haven't had counselling before, counsellors work in different ways so I suggest you hear more about how I work.

What working with me looks like

As you know Counselling is a 'talking treatment'. This means we'd explore together what you want to change and find a way forward that feels manageable for you, for 50 minutes every week.

Through working with me in this way individuals begin to develop and change. This in my opinion is all done by having the capacity to heal, grow and create a life that is more fitting with what we desire. Meaning making and helping people re-discover and attain these inner resources that so often feel like they're lost through either distortion, mistrust and experiences in life.

You can expect a warm, genuine and respectful attitude from myself when we work together… we can breathe through the tough and breathe through the good, your trust is something I will honour. Drawing and writing are also a couple of other ways we can work together. After all. these are your sessions!

Working at your pace is crucial for me, I understand that that your concerns and issues will come with pain and difficulties at times which will require patience, understanding and support, which is what you will have in our sessions together.

How long does counselling take?

I do not work in a time-limited way but what I do suggest to individuals is coming to a place of mutually agreeing time from the beginning. I can give you an estimate of how long I imagine it may take and throughout our time together we will regularly review how it is all going to ensure counselling is effective and to consider how much further work, if any, is necessary.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Counsellor with individual Registration with BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

I therefore have Diploma in Counselling and undertake continuing professional development through specialised training courses.

Experience

I have helped individuals obtain relief from a wide range of issues including: Depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship difficulties, guilt, trauma and abuse.

As well as working in private practice I have also counselled at Lewisham Bereavement Service and have counselled young adults in a secondary school.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

If you have been in therapy before and that experience did not resolve your issues, bear in mind that psychotherapy for example, is a name for a very diverse range of theoretical models and treatment approaches, and individual psychotherapists apply the model and method in which they are trained in their personal way.

Some people's issues may be susceptible to almost any model or approach, whereas others need a particular method that not all therapists use.

I am trained in a number of models and approaches and try to tailor the treatment I offer to your particular needs, rather than to expecting your need to be susceptible to a single treatment approach.
