Melita Rova MSc (MBACP Accredited & MUPCA of UKCP)
I provide adult individual integrative counselling and psychotherapy.
Therapy is based on a private conversation that takes place in a safe and quiet space during the therapy sessions between the client and the therapist. The process of talking to someone that is trained to listen carefully and deeply about your thoughts and feelings making no judgement but reflecting with you on your personal history opens up the possibility for you to come to a place of more clarity and more options about your problem, question, quest.
I describe my practice as relational integrative psychotherapy. I draw from psychoanalytic, humanistic and existential schools of thought and I give an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. My current interest is also focused on researching the use of breathing and meditation and bringing awareness to the body as part of the therapeutic process, following the latest advances of neuroscience.
Most of our pains and hurts have happened in a context of some form of significant relationship or the lack or absence of it. Therefore, therapeutic possibility and help has more potential to also arise within a therapeutic relationship. Relational psychotherapy opens up a possibility for a corrective experience through the therapeutic relationship which can serve as a springboard for new ways of relating with our self, other people and the world.
In my view a human being is not a summary of symptoms upon which theories or techniques are applied. You are treated as a person with equal capacity and strength. Your autonomy and free will, your identity and its expression are fully respected in their own uniqueness.
The way we will work together will hopefully help you to develop such a relationship with your self that you may trust your own process, recognise your potential and open up new ways of thinking about any presenting limitations.
Training, qualifications & experience
Training and qualifications
I hold an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have an extensive continuous professional development record in (attachment, existential analytic psychotherapy, the implications of neuroscience in the development of psychotherapy).
Background & Experience:
I was born in Greece and studied social work as well as theatre and drama in Athens. Between 1998-2001, I worked as an actress and a creative play facilitator for pre-school and primary school children in nursery, reception and primary school. From 2001 since 2015, I worked as a social worker for nearly fifteen years both in Greece and then in London. As an actress I learned to appreciate the psychological significance of story-telling, language, dialogue, embodiment and the human experience and effort around the givens of life 'eros, pathos, thanatos'. As a social worker I met individuals and groups during critical times of their lives and I experienced together with them acute multi-layered disadvantaged adversity, complex, compound and trans-generational trauma and substantial risk. My social work practice had a profound impact on my way of being and my worldview and together with my previous time in art and theatre they opened up the way towards psychotherapy. I continued my post graduate studies in Psychotherapy in London while being in analysis for more than five years.
I have been practising and working as a therapist since 2014 with people from varied backgrounds, cultures and personal histories. I am on this journey of attending to people whilst working on my personal development for the last fifteen years.
