I am an experienced, psychodynamic counsellor, offering one-to-one counselling to adults at my practice in Harpenden. Whatever your reasons for seeking counselling, I offer a confidential, safe space for you to unburden and feel heard, without fear of judgement.
Sometimes people turn to counselling after a traumatic event, such as a bereavement, divorce or redundancy. Often, however, people find themselves struggling for less clear-cut reasons. They may suffer from anxiety or depression, or feel stuck or lost without knowing why. They may wonder why they repeatedly end up in unhealthy relationships, or feel bullied at work, or have intimacy issues. Such problems can be made worse by feelings of shame, guilt or anger, which they might feel unable to share with their loved ones.
How I work
In weekly, 50 minutes sessions at a private practice room in Harpenden, I will work with you to make sense of experiences or feelings which might seem inexplicable or hopeless. It could be that there are links between your current difficulties and past experiences: perhaps family dynamics in childhood shaped how you relate to others at work or in romantic relationships, or behaviour patterns which developed early on have endured into adulthood in ways that are making you unhappy.
Finding the right counsellor can be a daunting prospect, and it’s important that you feel comfortable with your counsellor and with their style of counselling. I believe the client/counsellor relationship should be a creative partnership, in which we work together to help you understand why you feel the way you do. This understanding can, in turn, bring about lasting change.
An initial consultation will give us a sense of how we might work together, and allow us to discuss what you are hoping to gain from counselling and if the psychodynamic approach is right for you. We can also discuss whether are seeking short-term counselling to deal with a specific problem, or would prefer an open-ended arrangement in which we could look in more depth at some of the underlying issues.
If you would like to find out more, or arrange a no-obligation telephone conversation to discuss your needs, please do get in touch.

I have completed a rigorous five-year training through the Counselling Foundation, consisting of Foundation Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling.
I have been counselling clients for 7 years. In addition to my private practice, I see clients at a charitable counselling agency, where I also assess new clients for suitability for therapy. I have also worked as a grief counsellor for a bereavement charity.
