About me

Need someone to understand what it’s like to be you?

No one goes through life unscathed. It’s normal to face difficulties and dilemmas that leave you feeling distressed, overwhelmed or stuck.

I provide warm, kind and non-judgemental listening to any individual who is struggling right now. Equally, I am a calm, reliable and even-handed presence for couples who are finding the challenges of modern life are putting an intolerable strain on their relationship. I’ve created a safe, peaceful counselling space in-person,  online (via Zoom) or telephone for individuals and couples to talk in complete confidence about anything that’s troubling them.

Being heard and understood in this way is a powerful healer especially if you have been struggling alone for far too long. Problems that once seemed insoluble begin to unravel. Painful feelings that were once overwhelming can be approached with calmness and equanimity. Hope starts to emerge from the darkest places...

For me, counselling is a process that connects you with your innate wisdom and ability to make decisions that are right for you. It’s where you discover your power to make the changes you want. And for couples, I provide a space and a process where you can start to hear yourselves and each other without blame and hurt and take the steps you need to start working and communicating as a team.

Getting started

You've made the first step to addressing something in your life and I appreciate it can take a lot of courage to ask for help. Now you probably want to know if I'm the right counsellor for you, and it's true that your counselling experience very much depends on whether we're a good fit. I try to make the next step as easy as I can:

  • Organise a free initial session via Zoom or telephone to help you decide if counselling is right for you and I'm the right counsellor.
  • Talk to me via phone or email where I will answer as fully as I can any questions you have, about the issue you want to bring to counselling, my qualifications and background and how we could work together.

One final word of reassurance before you write an email or pick up the phone:

People often tell me that they find me warm, approachable, someone they can talk to without being judged. You don't need to have worked everything about before you make contact, but if counselling support is important to you, I do hope you will make contact and take the first step to making a positive change.

Training, qualifications & experience

After completing my professional training as a person-centred counsellor at the University of Warwick, I worked for three counselling charities in the West Midlands.

I have helped people who have experienced a trauma such as rape, domestic violence, a life-threatening illness, bereavement or divorce. I have worked with people who are finding difficulties in their personal or work relationships, survivors of physical, sexual or emotional abuse, or workplace bullying.

Counselling is my second career, so I bring to my therapeutic practice considerable experience of the modern workplace (as a manager and worker) and know how it sometimes tests the very limits of our emotional and mental health.

And I have a whole lot of life experience too, of births, deaths, relationships, disappointments and the odd triumph, with some scars to show for it all. Throughout my life, I’ve benefited from being counselled myself and can attest to its power in helping me to change and grow through personal crises.

I work within the ethical guidelines of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and have worked with people facing a wide range of difficulties:

  • Bereavement
  • Bullying at work
  • Divorce and separation
  • Domestic violence and coercive control
  • Family estrangement
  • Forced marriage
  • Loneliness
  • Rape and sexual violence
  • Redundancy
  • Relationship difficulties

I have also worked with people presenting with emotional distress, psychological problems and mental health issues including:

  • Anxiety and panic
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Managing anger
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Self-harm
  • Stress
  • Work-related stress

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
