About me

Life is rarely entirely straightforward and having an opportunity to explore and reappraise difficulties in a therapeutic setting can lead to new perspectives and new ways of approaching our relationship to ourselves, the people in our lives, our histories and our possible futures.

As an integrative and existential counsellor I draw on many psychotherapeutic and psychological perspectives to help my clients better understand their situation.

My way of working is relational and client-centred, that is to say that I that I feel that the most relevant solutions are created together and that I have a firm belief in people's ability to identify what distresses them, how they wish to work and what they wish to work towards.

I also provide Open Dialogue network (family) therapy with  qualified colleagues (there are always two therapist in each meeting). This modality was designed for working with families in crisis where the 'person at the centre of concern' is experiencing psychosis or other acute mental/emotional symptoms. Further information is available on request.

I work from a quiet and discreet therapy space in Clifton Village as well as online. Please feel free to contact me by email or phone if you would like to organise an introductory meeting to discuss your situation.

As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and graduate member of the British Psychological Society I adhere to their ethical and practical guidelines, keep up-to-date with new research and practice, undergo regular continued professional development and attend regular supervision. I am also a member of the Universities Counselling and Psychotherapies Association and a trainee member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally trained and qualified in Integrative Counselling (Adv Dip) and am a registered member of the BACP. I have since completed a postgraduate qualification in Psychology (Grad Dip) and more recently qualified as an Open Dialogue network (family) therapist and worked as such under clinical licence in the NHS.

I am presently undergoing further professional studies in existential psychotherapy as well as a doctorate in counselling psychology, as such I am a trainee Psychotherapist (MUPCA, UKCP) and trainee Counselling Psychologist (MBPsS).

I have delivered counselling in several NHS settings including a depression and anxiety service, a specialist gender identity service, a psychological therapy service and in an Open Dialogue network therapy team, providing both short-term and long-term therapy. The types of difficulties I have worked with have been wide-ranging and have included depression, anxiety, complex phobias, childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, complex bereavement, sexuality and gender, substance misuse and recovery, self-harm, psychosis and eating disorders.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
