About me

Hello and welcome! My name is Mashiyat and I am a humanistic integrative therapist.

My passion is people. My aim is to help my clients feel understood and worthy, regardless of what they may be carrying. I work in a collaborative style to create a safe and non-judgemental environment where one feels comfortable exploring their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Together, we will work towards achieving the best possible outcomes.

My approach to therapy is tailored to the unique needs of each individual. I take an integrative approach, which allows me to draw on different therapeutic techniques and philosophies to best support my clients. I do not adhere to a rigid framework, as I believe flexibility is key when working with the complexities of human experience. In some cases, I may incorporate practices such as breathwork or meditation, especially if there is significant anxiety or emotional tension present.

People may seek therapy for various reasons and I believe this doesn’t always require a clear, predefined goal. Mental health affects us all. As individuals, one's unique ways of thinking and feeling for every experience has a causal effect on their behaviour and significantly impacts their lives. Therapy is an opportunity for exploration and to grow in self-awareness and self-actualisation. Self-actualisation is a psychological concept in which an individual reaches their full potential and begins to live a life that aligns with their true self.

While healing from trauma can be challenging and cause discomfort, the process of working through difficult emotions and triggers is an act of profound courage. I provide a safe, confidential, and supportive space for my clients to feel at ease while navigating these feelings.

I work with individuals from all walks of life and I am committed to providing therapy in a culturally sensitive manner that respects each person's unique background and experiences. My goal is to understand and support without judgment or prejudice.

I offer for both short-term and long-term therapy. Currently, my therapy room is based in Dalston, London and I am available for online sessions. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have trained in several therapeutic modalities, including Humanistic approaches such as Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis (TA), and Gestalt therapy, as well as Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also have a strong interest in Existential therapy.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I hold an Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
