About me

Hello and welcome my profile,

I understand it can be hard to understand the reason behind the pain we are feeling. We may struggle when trying to find some meaning and purpose to what we are going through.In our counselling sessions I offer a safe and confidential space to help you explore, understand and resolve these difficult emotions.

My name is Maryam Riaz and I am a registered therapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer counselling sessions in the heart of Bradford City Centre – Little Germany.

WHAT I CAN HELP WITH

I have worked with clients in various settings including bereavement, trauma and adult mental health with a variety of problems including: loss, bereavement, child bereavement, still born loss, miscarriage, health related problems, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, stress management, life changing/life threatening health diagnosis and spirituality.

I also work for Employee Assist Programmes (EAP)

I specialise in working with trauma and offer trauma focused CBT

I have a Humanistic philosophy to my work which means I take a holistic view of problems and in our sessions we can discuss and explore any aspects of your health and wellbeing.

TYPES OF THERAPY

I work in a person-centred way which means our work together is focussed on working to your needs in a way and at a pace in which you are comfortable. I help you find the way forward that is right for you by facilitating your inner potential. As a relational therapist  I will work with you collaboratively to enable you to work towards the best solutions for you

Depending on your need I may integrate other approaches. Approaches used vary but can also include: Psychodynamic, Relational, Solution focused, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy( CBT) and Art therapy

I am happy to work with adults and older adults.

I can offer counselling in English, Urdu and Punjabi.

HOW I DELIVER THERAPY

I offer face-to-face sessions. These can be:

  • Short-term or time-limited counselling

We will work together depending on your specific needs.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
