About me

Admittedly it can feel daunting at first to realise/acknowledge that we are struggling and feeling stuck but counselling is a way forward that allows us to regain control over our lives and start on an exciting new journey for the future.   It is important that you feel that I am the right person for you so to get started all you need to do is call or email me and I am happy to offer an initial free 15 minute telephone conversation in order to discuss what you hope to get out of counselling and how I can help you going forward.

Whether it is bereavement, anxiety, depression or relationship problems, people come to counselling for many different reasons. The relationship between the two of us is important as it allows trust to develop at a time when the ability to trust is stretched. Therefore I offer a warm and gentle approach within a safe and confidential space to talk about your feelings and worries. I provide the space where you can be heard and understood without the fear of feeling judged.

I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor with over 20 years of experience offering both short and long-term therapy to adults, couples and young people covering a wide range of problems including anxiety, depression, bereavement and relationship difficulties. I adhere to the BACP professional code of ethics. I have had many years of experience of working in a wide variety of environments including schools, doctors, a college, a hospice, a well known mental health charity within the NHS and my own private practice.

I am here, not to tell you what to do but to understand how you are feeling and support you in a non-judgemental way as together we explore the problems that you may be facing. This is the first step to a self-awareness and understanding that allows you to make the changes that would make your life feel easier or simply feel better about yourself

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
