About me

Hello, I'm Martin and I have worked with clients who have experienced depression, anxiety, addiction, family struggles and childhood trauma. I am also an experienced couples therapist and have helped heterosexual, same sex and trans couples navigate and make sense of their relational dynamics. I offer a safe and confidential space should you be facing any kind of challenge. I am a relational therapist which means I will focus on helping you build more authentic and mutual relationships with others. I trained in Transactional Analysis which offers an equal relationship between therapist and client and is designed to explore each individuals personality and how it has been shaped by lifes experiences. I have a particular interest in working with  LGBTQ+ clients and worked for several years at the Terrence Higgins Trust which specialises in working with gay men. I have experience of working with BPD and Bipolar. My practice is open to all and I look forward to hearing from you. I realise that contacting a therapist can be daunting and I will do my best to make you feel comfortable and offer a non judgmental space and down to earth approach to help you make sense of some of your thought processes.

I have worked with a broad range of people from a range of backgrounds. I have helped clients work through a whole range of difficulties including depression, sexuality, relationships, bereavement, gender identity and addiction.

I offer short-term counselling as well as more long-term therapy.

Sometimes people just need a small number of sessions but if the issues are more complex then longer-term therapy can be really useful.

I have worked in Education for a number of years and have a good understanding of the issues affecting young people.

I am a member of the BACP and receive regular supervision which is a professional requirement.

Getting in touch

I do appreciate that making that first step can be intimidating - The first session can be the hardest because we often work ourselves up fantasising about what therapy might be like! The reality is for most people it is often a relief to finally be talking to a nonjudgmental, objective professional who is there to support and help you make sense of your thoughts.

How it works

If you do decide to make contact you can do so by email or mobile

We will then arrange a mutually beneficial time to meet for an initial session. You are under no obligation to continue, should you do this, but it will give you an opportunity to tell me a little more about what it is that's concerning you and to ask me any questions you may have.

Typical questions you may want to ask include:

How does Therapy work? How many sessions will I need? What happens if I want to stop?

You may also wish to ask me about my experience, qualifications and training and enquire about my fees and cancellation policy.

Should we agree to work together we would usually agree on a time slot (usually weekly) when we would meet and then we would see how we go from there.

I hope this has helped a little and should you decide to get in touch I look forward to meeting you

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
