About me

Picking up the phone and contacting a counsellor or therapist for the first time can be incredibly daunting.

I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I work without judgement, accepting the person for who they are. I do not tell you what to do and I do not decide what is important.

What matters to you is what is important, no matter how big or small that might seem.

I have worked with many clients experiencing loss and bereavement and also those living with life limiting illness. I have a particular interest with men's issues, but I also work with clients who are dealing with a wide variety of difficulties.

I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to their Ethical Framework, so you can be sure that confidentiality is a priority.

Currently I offer appointments face-to-face in Southampton or remotely via telephone or Zoom. I also make home visits and or "walk & talk" in the New Forest.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I use a counselling room in central Southampton for face to face sessions.

Walk and talk is a fantastic alternative to face to face and many clients benefit from the less formal setting. Walk & talk usually takes place in the New Forest, but other locations are possible including coastal paths. Routes are adaptable, dependant on the pace of the client. I stick to established pathways, but ground can be a little uneven and mud may be encountered. Clients need to wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Sessions in person do not suit everyone, and there are many reasons for this, so Zoom or telephone counselling provides a good alternative. Clients wishing to use this service will need a good, stable internet connection for Zoom or a strong, reliable phone signal.
