About me

I can support you if you are experiencing the following:

  • You please others and don't know how to stop it
  • Feeling insecure, small or inauthentic
  • You frequently allow other people to cross your boundaries
  • It is difficult for you to take up space and assert yourself.
  • It is difficult for you to be vulnerable and establish strong connections
  • You are feeling powerless in the relationships you have in your life
  • You get caught up in loops of self criticism
  • You feel stuck
  • It is difficult for you to self-regulate
  • Your anxiety is making it difficult to manage your life

I love working with clients that are trying to improve the relationships they have with themselves and with the world around them. I believe I can help you. I have 4000 hours working as a therapist and I support people just like you every day. And I love what I do.

There is a reason for why you are experiencing one or more of the above examples, and together we will unpack things and implement changes.

As a specialist in inner child work, I consider this approach to be the core of my therapeutic practice. It forms the foundation of my work, helping clients reconnect with their authentic selves and heal deep-rooted emotional wounds to transform their relationships with themselves and others.

I am passionate about working with women, people from cross cultural backgrounds and minority groups in general.

Getting Started:

Message me here using the form or email me directly. I respond very quickly to enquiries.

First Session:
During our first session, we will decide together whether to work in an open contract or with a pre-established number of sessions:

  • Open contract: This approach gives us the time to explore your core wounds and understand your behavioural patterns at a deeper level.
  • Pre-established sessions: Here, we’ll focus on a specific area of your life where you temporarily need clarity and support.

I have availability for online sessions on Tuesdays and for in person sessions on Wednesdays.

I can help you with: anxiety, ADHD, abuse, PTSD, OCD, identity issues, anger management, menopause related issues, depression, family issues, psychosexual issues, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, boundaries, addictions, panic attacks, phobias, eating disorders and relationship concerns. I also support my clients in career choices, life purpose and spirituality.

I offer sessions in English and in Portuguese.

"Hi Marina,
Just wanted to message you to say that I’m a week away from going travelling for a few months. I can’t count the number of times I’ve told people how important and helpful I found counselling with you. I wanted to thank you again and let you know that I’ve generally been really good, and am definitely getting better at self-soothing and at reaching out to the right people for support."

S.D., 30, United Kingdom
”I carry everything you taught me with me every single day, I remember your words and lessons every time I feel anxious or like I can’t do something, or when I feel self-critical thoughts creeping up. I am eternally grateful for the journey I was able to go on with your help, I feel so insanely lucky that you were my therapist. You have completely changed my life Marina! It hasn’t just helped me, I feel like it has also softened and deepened my understanding and compassion for people around me.

C.F., 28, United Kingdom
"Hi there! Just wanted to say how great the inner child workshop was. Had lots of fun and really touched a part of me that I haven't fully been able to understand before. I also went home and led my partner through the same visualisation, and it helped her so much.
We'd both love to hear about any future events and things that you run."

P.B., 37, United Kingdom
"Hi Marina, I want to thank you so much for your support and the space you held for me this year 🙏🏽 At the beginning of this year, I barely recognised myself, and over the year I've had the opportunity to come closer to home within me, and it's been amazing. Thank you deeply for being part of that journey. I hope our paths cross again (though under different circumstances 😁). Sending you lots of gratitude and love 🌙🪷✨"

R.M., 26, United Kingdom
"I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you again for everything over the past year. Our sessions have been an incredible journey, and I genuinely appreciate the support, guidance, and understanding you've provided throughout this process. I am leaving our sessions feeling lighter, with a greater sense of self and confidence, and feel very, very lucky to have had you as my therapist! If ever I find myself in need of support again, I will not hesitate to reach out. Until then, I'm wishing you all the best in your continued work and hope our paths cross again someday!"

C.M., 28, United Kingdom
"I worked with Marina for close to 3 years, and therapy was crucial in me understanding myself better – one key part of that was by connecting to sides of myself that I had been embarrassed about or wasn’t in touch with before therapy, like my teenage self. Resolving myself to these sides, seeing them, and discovering that I felt love towards them meant that I was able to approach life from a place of centeredness, a place where I was more at peace with myself, and so, more at peace with others."

G.A., 25, United Kingdom
"I worked with Marina for close to 3 years, and therapy was crucial in me understanding myself better – one key part of that was b"I can't express how grateful I am to have found Marina after other therapy attempts in the past. Her guidance, support, and therapy style have been invaluable to me on my journey throughout my personal growth. Marina supported me during university, where I tackled social anxiety, work life, family life, and student life. Today, I've not only learned how to cope with life's challenges but also how to view my different characteristics less critically. Marina has always made me feel safe and understood, allowing me to open up in ways I never thought possible. From our sessions, I've gained a deeper understanding of myself and developed the tools to navigate through life's ups and downs. Marina has been the therapist I’ve always wanted and needed. I wholeheartedly couldn't recommend her enough to anyone seeking a compassionate, supportive, and empathetic therapist."

Training, qualifications & experience

I studied at Psychosynthesis Trust and I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychosynthesis Counselling (PGDip) which is validated by the Middlesex University and accredited by both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Recently I have finished a Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training at the Sensorimotor Institute with Pat Ogden. Sensorimotor is a type of talk therapy that focuses on bringing awareness to the body, unlocking its wisdom.

I also work with Internal Family System Therapy (IFS). IFS focuses on identifying the different parts of us such as the inner critic, inner child, protectors and so on, and checking what part is getting in the way of our growth.

In addition to my private practice I am a training assistant at the Psychosynthesis Trust, a renowned institution in London Bridge that trains counsellors and psychotherapists. I have volunteered at the Volunteer Hackney Centre visiting people suffering from isolation, as well as various physical and mental health issues, supporting them to meet their life goals and rebuild their independence, and at the Waterloo Community Counselling working with immigrants, focusing on cultural adjustment, abuse, self-esteem issues and anxiety. In 2021 I worked as a therapist for Solace Women Aid supporting women that went through domestic abuse.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
