Are you struggling with an issue?  Would you like some help? I work collaboratively with individuals,  listening and supporting in a friendly, safe, accepting and confidential way ? We all sometimes need the support of others to help restore our life balance, work with traumatic experiences or reflect on our personal journey. No problem has ever been too small to be important or too big to be worked through in my counselling room.

'Life has become much happier, calmer and healthier, I now feel part of everything and can feel my own self returning. I'm starting to enjoy life more than I've felt able to for a long time'   E

'I just want to say a massive thank you for all your attempts help me mend myself. Your compassion and professionalism throughout sessions was amazing. I lived through a nightmare for years and you have given me the tools to heal myself.' M

I have had 15 years experience of working with a wide range of clients including NHS, Local Authorities, Commercial, Public and Voluntary sectors before moving into private practice. I am a BACP Accredited and Registered counsellor and  Director of a Mindsense Therapy Service In Rochdale with a further counselling room in Shaw (Oldham). I am passionate about helping others and support clients experiencing a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, relationship problems, trauma and bereavement. For Psychotherapy sessions with me or an experienced volunteer counsellor please see below.

Psychotherapy sessions offer you the opportunity to gain awareness and insight that will help you to overcome painful thoughts and feelings, increase your self-confidence and enhance your ability to cope with difficult circumstances. Additionally if you feel that counselling has not worked in the past I can offer alternative or a combination of different therapy approaches (Please see below).

Psychotherapy sessions with me can help you to look at problems from a different perspective and introduce different, effective ways to resolve them as well as giving you the opportunity to talk to someone other than friends or family, without embarrassment or fear of upset.

I can provide a professional and ethical counselling and psychotherapy service that is individual to your own personal requirements, offering long-term therapy for enduring conditions or the opportunity to talk and 'offload' occasionally.

Your individual course of therapy may include aspects of Person Centred Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Therapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, schema and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I also offer EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) as a part of the integrative counselling session or alternatively as a single therapeutic approach. More information can be found below.

Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety is usually a normal, useful and effective response in times of heightened stress which can be understood and resolved. However it can get out of hand and cause major distress in day to day life. If you are experiencing this, therapy can help reduce symptoms and resolve issues in a healthier way .

Anxiety can prevent people from living a normal life, achieving their potential at work, in social situations, relationships or as a parent. It is one of the most common reasons for feeling unhappy or understood. If you are experiencing Anxiety you may be nervous about even ringing about help, this is totally normal. During any help you receive for anxiety you will be fully supported and given the space to heal at your own pace.

The Emotional Freedom Technique works really well for most suffers of anxiety, more information on this can be found below.

Schema Therapy

Schema Therapy is an integrative psychological treatment that combines the best aspects of cognitive-behavioral, Gesthalt, interpersonal and psychoanalytic therapies into one model. Schema Therapy has shown remarkable results in helping people to change negative ("maladaptive") patterns with which they have lived since childhood often without realising it. These maladaptive patterns carry on into adulthood making life much more difficult than it needs to be and with individuals thinking and behaving in ways that can be both detrimental and unhealthy. Schema therapy has been successful even when other therapies such as counselling or CBT have failed. It is often used in the treatment of chronic mental health disorders ranging from anxiety to borderline personality disorders.

A serious but common condition: The lifetime risk of any individual person becoming depressed is around 17 percent, and most people have their first bout of depression in their late teens or early twenties. Some people become depressed after experiencing a trauma or stressful life change such as a separation or divorce, the death of a spouse, being laid off from a job, financial instability, relocation, or a decline in health. Everyday stressors and the presence of other psychological conditions, can also contribute to depression.

There are times when we all feel sad, hopeless or fed up. Depression is different. With depression these feelings don’t just go away. They can last for months, becoming so intense that carrying on with everyday life can become impossible. Depression can be hard to spot. There are many different symptoms, some emotional and some physical. If you think you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it might be time to talk to someone and visit your GP for help.

Young Adults

Counselling can be used to support to young adults to address and overcome developmental challenges,  traumatic life experiences, anger, anxiety, negative self belief, self harm, issues around leaving home, university and much more in a safe and secure environment.  At this time of life they are additionally coping with rapid physical, cognitive, sexual and emotional changes with existing mental health conditions diagnosed for the first time, adding to the stress.

Due to the sheer volume of changes that occur this age group often find it difficult to even talk to close family. At Mindsense Therapy a range of therapies are used and techniques are brought together to help during this time whilst the young person transitions into full adulthood.

The Emotional Freedom Technique

EFT is a way of healing based on the same principles that have been used for thousands of years in acupuncture—but without the needles. It has been shown to be  successful for a wide range of emotional, health and performance issues. It often works where nothing else does through the release of positive energy around the body. EFT consists of tapping on accupressure points (See the chart below), whilst focusing cognitively on a problem. This is done with the therapist, fully clothed and at no point is the therapist required to touch the client. Your therapist will guide you by tapping their own pressure points and you will be required to repeat back certain words which focus on your problem. By accessing the energy meridians huge changes around beliefs and emotions can occur. Examples can be found online at Youtube etc. The basic tapping technique can be used at home but is not a substitute for being assisted by a professional. EFT is a modern and highly effective way to resolve your personal issues.

"EFT is a completely different approach to integrating the emotional therapy process and physical healing. I’ve seen astonishing results with EFT.”

EFT is available face to face, by telephone and skype for those who are unable to reach Mindsense Therapy in Rochdale. When you book your EFT session you will require a short telephone assessment and an EFT tapping chart will be forwarded for you to look at before you arrive.

Marie at Mindsense Therapy has been trained by Master Founding Practitioner Tania Prince to deliver EFT for clients who feel 'stuck' with their feelings to help them move on.
