Hello and thank you for visiting my web page. My name is Dr Marie Ferguson and I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have over 20 years of experience and have had the pleasure of treating many people over the years.
I have offices in Glasgow city centre and Hamilton in Lanarkshire, and I offer a variety of evidence-based psychological therapies. I have spent the majority of my clinical career in a senior role and was Head of an Adult Psychology Service within the NHS for many years.
More often than not people don’t know what’s wrong when they first decide to see a psychologist. They just know that they are ‘not themselves’ and want help to understand what is happening to them and also how to move forward.
The most common difficulty I come across in my clinics is anxiety, people tend to suffer from some form of it, even when it is not the main reason that they are attending. In my experience mental health problems, can make people feel more vulnerable and life feels more unpredictable which in itself can lead to anxiety and stress.
I have experience of working with people with anxiety, panic, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. If you don’t identify with this list then don’t worry, it’s just a brief summary.
I am experienced in a wide variety of psychological interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. However, I tend to use an integrative approach. This means I do not rely on one approach, I tailor my intervention to best suit the needs of my individual clients. I also believe having a good therapeutic relationship, compassion and at times humour, are very important in therapy.
If you would like to find out more, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me by phone or by email.
