About me

I am a professionally qualified and highly experienced BACP Registered Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, working with children, adolescents and adults. My therapy practice is based in Jesmond, which is easily accessible by car and public transport. I also work for a charity funded organisation.

I am a warm and compassionate counsellor who provides a confidential and non-judgmental therapeutic service.  Having had counselling myself, I have walked in the client's shoes and understand how difficult taking the initial step can be.

I believe that we all have the capacity to be fulfilled, content and to achieve our full potential.

However, sometimes current events, past experiences, or the decisions we make, can result in our unhappiness. People come to therapy for many reasons including anxiety, depression, and/or low confidence. Others may be experiencing relationship difficulties, or wish to better understand themselves and why they think, feel and behave the way they do.

All the services I offer are tailored to meet your unique circumstances, style and pace.I believe that the relationship between therapist and the client is just as important as the therapy itself, and work on creating an open and honest relationship.

My areas of expertise include but not limited to; trauma and abuse, eating disorders, attachment difficulties, relationships, anxiety and depression, loss and bereavement and self-harm.

Working with children and adolescents

I work with children and young people aged between 5 to 16 who may be experiencing emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties associated with any of the following:

  • parental separation and divorce
  • bullying and low self-esteem
  • loss and bereavement
  • anxiety and stress
  • trauma
  • eating disorders
  • abuse or neglect
  • adoption and fostering

Children and adolescents usually use play and art as a way to express themselves and to work through worries and concerns. This can:

  • promote emotional and social well-being
  • build self-esteem and confidence
  • explore difficult feelings in a safe place
  • encourage self-expression
  • improve communication and relationships
  • encourage greater social awareness
  • develop boundaries
  • improve relationships and build trust
  • explore body awareness and personal space

I provide a professional and confidential Counselling and Psychotherapy service.  As a Registered Member of BACP, my practice is informed by its Ethical Framework and Professional Guidelines.

To maintain and develop my practice, I receive regular supervision, receive personal therapy and attend continuing professional development events.

Should you have any questions about our working together, please email or call me and I'd be happy to answer them.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have studied at the Northern Guild for Psychotherapy for 5 years.  My training has involved various approaches including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural and Creative Therapy.

The core model I use is Transactional Analysis, effective with a wide range of therapeutic issues.  It is unique in the depth of its theory, yet provides easy to understand ways to explore and identify a plan for change, through a personalised, confidential and professional service.

I have experience of working with people who have experienced domestic abuse, the BME community, Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS), GP surgery, and have a number of years experience counselling in schools and colleges.  My experience has also included working on men/women/children inpatient secure units which involved working with personality disorders and schizophrenia.

On-going advanced training in Psychotherapy due to complete in 2018.

Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, November 2016.

Certificate in Transactional Analysis (TA101), January 2013.

BSc (Honours) Pharmacology - Sunderland University, 2007.
