About me

Most of us will suffer periods in our lives when we are consumed by a sense of hopelessness, which might make it difficult to get out of bed in the morning. Or where we are crippled with anxiety and lie awake all night, worrying about the next day or near future. Others of us may suffer from low self esteem and self doubt that prevents us achieving our goals for 2024.  Life's curved balls can trigger emotional difficulties for us all.  If you need to support to overcome and manage your challenges, I am the person to help you.

I specialise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, (CBT) and my aim is to provide a therapy that is tailored uniquely to your individual needs, circumstances and goals. I can help you manage your stress levels and difficult emotions, bringing more clarity and balance within your life, offering also a safe space for you to be listened to. Let me ask you when is the last time you were truly ‘heard’ and ‘understood?’ Also are there times when you feel overwhelmed with anxieties and emotion, invisible or under appreciated? Or feel consumed by a sense of hopelessness that makes it difficult to feel motivated or positive about anything?

CBT is the recommended therapy by NICE (National Institute for Excellence), as it is proven to be effective at treating a wide range of emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. It looks at how our thoughts affect how we feel and these feelings directly influence behavior. Have you ever stopped and took note of what you were thinking when you felt a change in your mood? Have you noticed how you behave when you felt that way? Through CBT you can gain awareness- why me, why now, why won’t my problem go away?  I will teach you invaluable skills that will enable you to manage difficult emotions now and in the future.

We will work together to transform your life!

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Testimonials

I would personally recommend Maria to anyone who needs a bit of help overcoming personal issues. I have processed my thoughts and feelings, which have helped me overcome the physical effects my emotions were causing. With Maria's support I have a more positive view of myself and feel I can move on. (E.G.)

Maria helped me through a journey I didn't think I could ever survive. Without her support I would never have been brave enough to take the steps to understand my grief. I remember at times how I felt so afraid inside even to share how I really felt, but Maria gave me strength and trust. I had stored many tears and pain over the years, tears to me were weak. I was so afraid to face them in case I fell and I couldn't get back up, this was my biggest fear. I needed someone to support me and I thank you Maria for being there, you helped me release the pain in my heart. You helped me to grieve, you helped me to find me again and you helped me to smile again! Thank you.
(S.T.)

The decision I made the day I contacted Maria, was the best I could ever make. All I can think now is, why I didn't do it earlier. My anxiety of panic attacks developed so bad that I had to mentally prepare myself just to leave the house. I found Maria very understanding and she was was so keen to help me to get back on track. I could feel my confidence building up after every session. CBT is a great therapy, but it is the therapist whom makes it so amazing and helpful. I am just grateful to Maria for her huge support. (Z.S)

Maria has helped me deal with several issues. Using her excellent knowledge of CBT, has changed me from being 'Mr Negative' to 'Mr Positive' and has helped in my relationship with my partner. She has also helped me a great deal with a bereavement in the family, that I never grieved over and a Father who was never there. Although I was not convinced that this was the right thing to do for me, I can honestly say going to see Maria was the best thing I have done and needed to do. I would recommend her 100%. Again thank you Maria for being a great help and getting me on the right track. The best money I have ever spent!!! Mr D.M.

I would like to thank you again for all your support during the last few months. As well as practical advice I have found the process of talking through issues with someone independently very helpful, in many ways reassuring. You have helped me make sense of a good number of my issues. I am eternally grateful. (Mr S.C)

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

There is a lift at one of the two locations I practise out of.
