About me

Hello, my name is Karen and I am a qualified Person Centred Therapeutic Counsellor, working in an integrative way. I am a registered MBACP member and work strictly within the BACP Ethical Framework and Code of Practice.

I work with Children and Adults with a wide range of issues. To date my work experience is varied and I am fully committed to supporting people through counselling and therapeutic progression.

I have an Accredited Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People and trained to use the SPICC Model (Sequentially Planned Integrative Counselling for Children). This is a well-researched and proven model specifically designed for working with children which draws on a variety of methods and integrates several modalities, to name a few: Roger’s Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused (Egan Model).

I am also a CPCAB Level 6 Clinical Supervisor, using Hawkins and Shohet Seven Eyed model of supervision to explore client/clinician's work and reflect on self-awareness in a structured and ethical manner. I have over 12 years of experience working as a Therapeutic Counsellor. I have worked as Senior Practitioner and Manager within 2 major third sector charities, one of these charities was based within a CAMHS setting. The last 5 years have been spent working within with one of the countries largest children's mental health charities. Initially managing a team of Therapists then moving in 2020 to managing the team's Clinical Supervision provision for a range of therapists and supervisors based in schools. During this time I have mentored other trainees and qualified Clinical Supervisors.

My practice is near the M62 motorway with parking outside.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
