About me

I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1990 and since then I have worked in a range of diverse mental health settings both in Spain and the UK. In addition to my Doctorate, I have also completed a Master’s Degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural and have received specialist training in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR). I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and I am a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society.

I have worked in the NHS for 18 years both in inpatient and community services, and I have delivered individual therapy, group-based CBT interventions and supervision. Alongside this, I have worked in the independent sector, for the Priory and later I ran my own clinic. I am proficient in delivering effective evidence based psychological interventions to adults with a range of mental health problems and emotional difficulties including anxiety, depression disorders, bipolar, adjustment disorders, low self-esteem and relationship problems. My area of specialism is CBT and third wave psychological approaches such as ACT and mindfulness based CBT. I drew on these treatment modalities to deliver effective NICE evidence based psychological interventions founded upon individualised formulation and identification of clear, realistic and specific goals. I am passionate about creatively applying psychological interventions to meet the unique needs of each patient, ensuring that that therapy being delivered is accessible and collaborative in achieving sought after gains. I am highly respected in my professional field and remain committed to ensuring excellence in my clinical work.

For the past 14 years, I have held the position of Head of Adult Community Psychology Service in the NHS and I have been responsible for the delivery of highly specialist psychological assessments and effective evidence based interventions to working age adults. Being the most senior clinician in the adult specialism, I was often asked to provide advice and clinical opinion with regards to complex and highly challenging cases, and in all instances when there was an out of area request for highly specialist psychological treatment. Over the years, I have developed an area of specialism in the assessment and treatment of clients with Bipolar Disorder. I have extensive experience in treating clients with this condition. My Doctoral research focused on evaluating the efficacy of a brief CBT based therapeutic intervention for clients with bipolar disorder and I published a number of academic papers on this topic. I remain invested in my own professional development, and ensure that I continue to offer psychological therapy that is innovative, forward thinking and highly effective.
