About me

Covid -19 update

"During these difficult times, the safety of all is paramount.

In line with the recommendations from the authorities and according to NHS and BACP latest guidance on face to face interactions, I am now offering to my clients telephone or online therapy until the situation will improve sufficiently.

I understand that many of you may have concerns but I have an ethical duty to prevent harm to clients and their families. As such I feel that I have to do what I can to prevent the spread of the virus while still offering my services to people that need help addressing mental health issues.

I already have a lot of experience in telephone or online therapy. I ensure that you will receive the same level of exceptional care and service that I offer during face to face contacts.

Our virtual therapy sessions can be available across different platforms; you and I will discuss the approach most suited to you. Once our virtual therapy session is booked and your preferred platform is chosen, I will provide you with guidance so you can connect with me on the day and time of the therapy.

I very much appreciate your help and understanding during this challenging period and look forward to working with you."

Life is full of challenges and problems difficult to address that make us sometimes feeling unable to figure out what to do.

Counselling can really change your life by giving you the opportunity to share your concerns with someone skilled at listening who can help you come to terms with emotions or other issues troubling your life.

My name is Maria, a fully qualified counsellor (BA Hons) and registered practitioner (MBACP) providing counselling and psychotherapy to young people (16 years+), individuals and couples.

I offer a safe, calm and compassionate environment, where you and I talk freely without being judged or criticised. I will help you to understand what is happening and why, explore and interpret the underlying causes. Together we will examine ways of dealing with the issues and move forward. It is a joint effort where we work to overcome your difficult times and achieve long term positive changes in your life.

In addition to my private practice, I am a member of The Eaves Counselling and Psychological Services in Surrey, I work as assessor at the Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre in Guildford and deliver short term solution focused counselling for the NHS IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) department in Surrey.

How I work

Transactional Analysis (Berne, 1910-1970) is the main theory supporting my therapeutic approach, “a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and personal change” (Stewart & Joines, 1997).

TA is a talking therapy where sessions are used to explore your personality and how your experiences, especially in childhood, shaped it.
TA is recognised as a modern form of psychology that incorporates elements of humanistic, person centred, integrative, psychodynamic therapies into a very versatile therapy that can help on a vast range of issues and problems, in treatment of all types of psychological disorders, from everyday living problems to severe psychosis.

You and I would work directly on here and now, addressing and solving problematic behaviours, helping you to find solution with the ultimate goal to ensure you regain absolute autonomy over your life.

I combine TA with the Re-decision therapy (Goulding & Goulding, 1917-1992) in a hybrid of Gestalt and TA that helps clients achieve a change in emotions and behaviours that counteract old decisions.

I use a variety of tools and creative techniques to help you to improve your life and to live it more fully.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
