About me
My name is Maria. I am an experienced Counselling psychologist, who specialises in working with children, adolescents and young adults but have experience with all ages. I have experience working in various NHS settings as well as private practices for over 10 years.
As I understand therapy is hard to start and it's important to find a good therapist you match with I offer free initial conversation and pride myself in providing a unique, warm and welcoming therapeutic environment.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology, Masters degrees in Developmental Psychology and a professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.
I have substantial experience in effectively aiding clients dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, relationship challenges, OCD, emotional regulation, self-harm, complex trauma, personality disorders, domestic violence, and eating disorders.
I am trained in evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Psychodyamic therapy. As a Counselling psychologist my therapeutic style is integrative as I combine theories tailoring therapy to suit each of my client's unique needs.
I believe in the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client with the aim of empowering each individual to reach their full potential. I pride myself in working from a non-judgemental, diversity aware, and compassionate lense, and my clients have expressed appreciation and gratitude at this approach.
I am highly specialized in child and adolescent mental health. With young clients I work from a systemic view point meaning I involve parents and the whole family unit whenever necessary, while also respecting each individual clients desires.
I also have experience working with parents and new mothers facing challenging times or who want space to think how to improve their dynamics at home. I have been able to assist many families in coming to terms with the diagnosis of ADHD and autism, and learn techniques to help with behavioural difficulties that may arise.
I am also very passionate in working with clients who struggle with emotional regulation, suicidal ideation and self harm. I have trained in Dialectical Behavioural Therapy and have years of experience working using a DBT framework.
