I work with individuals who want to do something about overcoming or reducing the effects of anxiety, stress, loss, feeling sad, depression, low self confidence, difficult family or relationship issues. You may have made your own efforts to manage your issues with some success. But if you feel dissatisfied that you have not resolved issues enough, counselling or psychotherapy may be helpful.
You don't have to 'need' therapy but it can be a useful tool to reflect and consider how best to deal with your issues. I offer warm, sensitive support to deal with what ever you are facing right now. Finding resolution and moving on is possible.
I am an accredited Counsellor (NCS) and Gestalt Psychotherapist (UKCP) as well as a Registered Member of BACP.
I practice in Whitchurch, near Knowle in South Bristol, and work with individuals. I welcome general enquiries about counselling and therapy without commitment as I understand the importance of finding someone who feels right for you.

How does Therapy work?
Considering change can sometimes be difficult but is also rewarding, and speaking with someone objective like a Therapist is often helpful to check out how you think or feel and to explore any changes.
Our thinking and pattern of behaviours may sometimes affect how we resolve our issues. This may involve inner criticism, self doubt, and low confidence which can affect the types of relationships we develop or decisions we make. You may feel uncertain about what else you can do. Counselling and psychotherapy provide an opportunity to explore further and gain awareness about yourself and your choices.
Gestalt Therapy focuses on understanding issues or patterns in our lives holistically so you can become more aware of what you need to change or find resolution. We don't have to continue old patterns unless they work for us.
My aim: I believe that change is possible and together we work out what you need. Therapy can support people to build their own 'toolkit' of skills and knowledge to create the resilience and clarity you may want with aspects of your life. Helping you to feel better about your issues.
My experience: I have been in private practice for several years working with people on many issues. I gained extensive experience of many life situations, issues and relationships as an adult care social worker for 30 years. I work therapeutically with people as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor as I believe in the possibilities of change, recovery and adaptations in our lives.
What can I work with? Psychotherapy is a higher level of training so I can work on a variety of issues such as anxiety; low mood, feeling sad or depression; low self esteem or confidence; bereavement or loss; stress management or work issues; recovery from childhood experiences; getting through relationship issues; repairing relational patterns and many other life situations. We can work short term or long term, on specific issues or general.
My Availability: I work weekdays including early evenings or mornings- if you have a specific need you can clarify my availability via email or text before considering making direct contact.
Making contact: I welcome telephone contact to explore issues with no obligation. You can email or text me to arrange a confidential telephone call. You can also ring my mobile direct and leave a short message if I am not there. This telephone introduction involves about 10 minutes to briefly check what you are looking for, what I may offer, session availability etc. Then you decide whether you would like to come for a face to face first session.
The first session: The first introductory session is at a reduced fee and confidential. We clarify your aims and I explain about how I may work with your issues. You do not have to tell me everything in a first session- just enough to inform me about what you would like to work on. I also explain more about counselling, therapy and my practice. You then decide what you want to do.
Ongoing sessions: We will clarify whether you want to work on a specific issue short term or continue long term with complex issues. My aim is that when you finish your series of sessions you will feel more confident so you can manage your issues yourself.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an accredited Counsellor with the National Counselling Society.
I have an Advanced Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy: I am an accredited Gestalt Psychotherapist with UKCP.
I am a Registered member of BACP.
I have experience of working with alcohol issues.
CQSW Social Work: I was also an adult care social worker for over 30 years working with people in a variety of settings in particular mental health, learning disabilities, autism, older people, carers, and many other life issues.
I have a Post qualifying Award in Social Work.
I have a Certificate in Management (merit).
I have a B.Sc (Hons) in Biochemistry.
