About me

Hello, my name is Margaret, I am a qualified, experienced counsellor of adults, currently working online exclusively.

I work with a wide variety of people who have many and varied reasons for seeking help and have a passion for helping people grow to where they want to be.

What I offer

I offer an invitation to talk through your emotions, relationships, patterns of behaviour, beliefs and their origins. By reflecting on them, with you,  you may discover new ways of experiencing that can contribute positively to the life you wish for yourself. My aim is to facilitate the process by listening to what you are saying to try to truly understand and feedback to you so that you can see,  the sometimes conflicting, parts within from a different perspective, and get to know the effect they have on your life. By talking through and understanding yourself and your patterns and by challenging negative self-perception you can begin to build self-esteem, self-awareness and a more positive relationship with yourself. I may if appropriate and relevant, introduce you to methods of reuniting with the parts you had to shut off in order to survive and help you reconnect your mind with your body.

How I work

I work from the perspective that you are the only one who truly knows you. I am guided by you and your preferences for the way we work together, whether you feel more suited to having space to explore yourself, guided exploration of your past and inner self or more interactive strategies to work with. Together, we can work towards the person you want to be through understanding, increasing self-awareness, building self-esteem, finding more helpful patterns and developing your relationship with yourself.

Our sessions will have a pluralistic focus which means we will work in collaboration with each other, where your input into what works for you balanced with my training and experience of what may be helpful and safe will determine the pace, input and nature of the therapy.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

The process

If you have read my profile and have made an enquiry, I will contact you by phone or email depending on which contact details you supply.

I will send you out some information on how I work, online counselling, my certificate of Insurance and Data Protection Registration. I will also send out a sample contract for you to look over.

If you are happy with this information and wish to go ahead, we will arrange a suitable time and date for an initial assessment session. This will give you a chance to make a decision on whether you feel comfortable with me and for me to know if I am able to help with what you are looking for.

If you choose to go ahead we can arrange a suitable time and date for further sessions.

At any point in this process I welcome any questions you may have.
