Welcome to Going Forward with CBT– Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Services in Wakefield, Huddersfield and Barnsley. My name is Margaret Holmes, but most people call me Mags. My work as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist provides a personalised and confidential approach to talking therapy for adults aged 18 and over.
I am a fully qualified CBT practitioner and have completed the Post Graduate Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy at the University of Huddersfield. I am also fully accredited member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified CBT practitioner and have completed a Post Graduate Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy at the University of Huddersfield.
The 35 years’ experience I have, within the field of mental health has involved both community and crisis work. It is my belief that my nursing background (within mental health) has served to provide a strong foundation for the delivery of effective Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
However, when later managing a mental health unit within the private sector, my interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy began to take hold, resulting in several years of academic study at The University of Huddersfield. My combined experiences eventually led me to achieve a Masters degree in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy.
CBT is a subject from which therapists continue to learn after training has ended. Such forms of learning are also evidenced when applying for accreditation with BABCP, whose standards require evidence of regular supervision and training undertaken by the therapist. This allows me to keep up to date with new developments, contributing towards the delivery of the highest standard of therapy to which I aspire. My training, skills and experience allow me to work with clients affected by the following conditions:
- Depression or low mood

Your initial assessment appointment will last 50 minutes approx. All subsequent therapy sessions will also last approximately 50 minutes.
I am available for individual face to face therapy sessions on Monday, Tuesday Thursday and Friday from 10.000 hrs to 18.00hrs in Wakefield, Huddersfield and Barnsley.
My approach to therapy is based upon the premise that CBT is not just a job, but a vocation. I believe that it’s a privilege to work with clients who may feel a sense of uncertainty and vulnerability about discussing their feelings and problems with a 'stranger'. It is my belief that emphasis upon the confidential nature of the relationship is paramount, to enable us to build a trusting and supportive relationship in a non-judgemental manner. I also strive to accompany this approach with compassion and sensitivity to your therapeutic needs, to enable us to develop a supportive, trusting relationship. Past experience has enabled me to appreciate the value of such a relationship with talking therapy, which is of equal importance to the skills and mode of therapy.
All therapy sessions, which are conducted on a 1:1 basis, are private and confidential.
