About me

Are you struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem or just feeling stuck? Do you find relationships—whether with yourself or others—difficult right now? You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore these emotions, patterns, and experiences.

With a background in education and extensive experience supporting young people and adults, I am deeply passionate about helping individuals reconnect with their true, authentic selves. I wish for you that you find inner peace, true belonging and self-acceptance.

As a qualified integrative therapist, I tailor my approach to your unique needs. I believe that healing begins with connection, and at the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship we build together. I welcome all parts of you into our sessions - including those that feel angry, ashamed, or sad.

I am here to walk alongside you as you navigate life's tricky moments. In a world that can feel overwhelming, I offer a calm, supportive space where you can pause, reflect, and heal. Let’s take this step together. You might not be able to put your finger on what is going on for you, but we can work together to make sense of your world.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been supporting young people and adults for over fifteen years and have always enjoyed the relational aspects of my work. My background is in education (BA Hons, PGCE, QTS), and so I value the importance of going at your pace. You are the expert in our sessions; I journey alongside you.

I have an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling from Iron Mill College, Exeter, a specialist counselling college. I also hold a Certificate in Counselling.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abide by their ethical framework.

I currently work in private practice as well as working together with young people at Young Devon in a counselling capacity.

If you would like to know more about my qualifications and training, please take a look at my website: www.mareikecoakleycounselling.com.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

The therapeutic space is yours and you choose what to bring and explore. During our initial session, we will collaborate to find a way to address what it is that brings you to counselling. I work with short- and long-term clients.

I have experience of working with a wide range of presentations, including: grief, anger, parenting, identity, emotions around ND diagnosis, anxiety, suicidal ideation and boundaries.

Whatever it is that brings you to therapy, you will be met with compassion, empathy and warmth.
