Manuela Meilak, Dipl. Psych., UKCP Psychotherapist
“I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free” (Michelangelo).
At times we face particular events and problems. The world around us may be changing which could leave us feeling confused. We may have reached a critical phase of our life. For personal or professional circumstances we may be looking after other people and this has taken a toll on us. We may be fatigued and exhausted. Or our self-esteem and our enjoyment of life may be diminished.
Whether your current struggles are the result of life problems, specific challenges, a crisis, or come from a desire for more creativity and sense of wellbeing, we can work together to help you improve your experience of life, relationships with other people, the world and yourself.
As an Integrative Transpersonal psychotherapist I draw tools from a variety of approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. I value a holistic approach and I find that wellbeing is expressed in the body, mind and inner being. I place trust, safety and heart as core values in how I work with my clients.
“We carry inside the wonders we seek outside” (Rumi).
As well as using the traditional 'talking' approach, I work with creative imagination, be it in the form of art, craft, music, movement, images, sand tray. I have a particular interest in dreams and I encourage clients to explore this rich and unique expression of who they are.
I offer a confidential space for you to explore what is important to you. Exploring what is on our minds and in our lives with another person in a safe non-judgemental environment can give our inner self a place to heal, nourish and strengthen. It may take time and it requires a special kind of courage, that of being curious about our self.
Training, qualifications & experience
I studied at the Centre of Counselling and Psychotherapy Centre in London where I qualified with a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am currently studying in the Advanced Psychotherapy Diploma.
The approach I trained in is Integrative Transpersonal Psychotherapy which means that I work holistically drawing tools from a variety of approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. I describe it as a holistic approach to healthy minds which recognises a link between body, mind and soul.
My other background is management in health care, with many years of experience including overseeing operational delivery, development and commissioning of services in primary and community care. My Linkedin profile can give you an insight on my professional background.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
£ 50.00 in Kent (ample parking available)
£ 60.00 in London (easy reach via Tube and Trains)
Sometimes it may feel scary to enter therapy. But like with food, the best thing is to try for yourself. For the first session I allow more time (1.5 hours) so that you can have a sense of how it feels and how I work.
If you are away travelling regularly, I offer telephone sessions and a degree of flexibility in the booking of the sessions: please let me know from the start your circumstances, so that we can find a way that can best support you.
