About me
Hello and welcome to my profile.
I have 25 years of experience working as a counsellor and psychotherapist and am fully accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am dedicated to values of empowerment, inclusion and compassion in my practice. We can all experience vulnerability in our lives, and it is my intention to offer the best possible environment for you to be heard and understood without fear of judgement.
My experience
I have spent the last eight years managing and working as a therapist in a specialist palliative care setting. It has been an honour to work alongside clients with life limiting illnesses, people at the end of their lives & families coping with bereavement. I have also worked in private practice, including working with employees, particularly NHS staff. For me, this highlighted the importance of having protected, safe environments where we can be deeply listened to and feel understood. I have also worked with many clients experiencing anxiety and depression, clients living with the long-term effects of sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape & other traumatic experiences. I have also delivered counselling training at all levels, from Introductory to Diploma level, and previously managed a counselling training department at a local college.
How I work
I have a lot of depth to my knowledge & experience, including reading and researching around bereavement theories, and the effects of trauma. I trained in the person-centred approach, which means that I will offer empathy, acceptance and a real human connection as we work together. My role is to offer accompaniment to you on your journey, rather than imposing my own timetable or structure. It can feel challenging at times because we are often not used to allowing ourselves this type of attention. Being deeply understood in this way can give us more clarity and understanding on our own lives. We can start to recognise unhelpful patterns of behaviour in ourselves and our relationships and move towards choices which allow us more fulfilment. I work alongside you, giving respect & sensitivity to you & your story.
It is not my intention to appear to be somebody who is ‘sorted’ and removed from the effects of everyday stresses & anxieties. We all experience times in our lives when our usual coping mechanisms are not working and we need support from others around us. This might include sometimes needing professional help.
I also have a certificate in Mindfulness, which I incorporate into my work if this feels useful to clients. Mindfulness can nurture the development of a friendly, caring response to our own inner experiences. I have a certificate in clinical supervision and work with counsellors to nurture & develop their practice.
Training, qualifications & experience
Recently, I have been working with (EAP's) Employee Assistance Programme, mainly working with Stress & Anxiety within the workplace.
I have also managed a counselling training programme, taking people through from the introductory level to become fully qualified counsellors.
I have a Diploma in supervision and have been working alongside counsellors and trainees on placement for over 10 years.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
