About me

We are here at Head Agenda to assist you via Online, Face to Face and Telephone sessions. I am an Accredited member of the BACP,  they class this as being the gold standard in therapy. I own a successful private practice (Head Agenda) with over 30 highly qualified therapists working for corporate companies and individuals and couples. I have previously worked at Harrogate Hospital counselling staff and GP Surgeries. I have 16 years' experience helping with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, anger management and stress to name but a few of the issues clients have brought within the NHS as well as privately referred clients and trauma work. I am also trained in CBT to advanced practice and qualified in the Rewind Technique a non intrusive highly effective treatment for Phobias/severe anxiety/panic attacks/trauma/PTSD as well as a qualified Supervisor to other counsellors. The extent of the work I have experience with is listed later in this profile. I have also worked for Cruse Bereavement and Education Leeds as a child mentor.

My previous work experience is in business, I worked in marketing and advertising for 20 years prior to changing careers. I therefore understand corporate environments and the pressures for those who work within them.

I work from beautiful contemporary rooms on Park Place which are 5 minutes from Leeds train station, there is plenty of on street parking. Everything discussed between us is strictly confidential. Please don't hesitate to call me or email me should you wish to have an initial chat about you and how I may be able to help. There's absolutely no obligation.

I have been awarded 'Accredited' status as a member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy and the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. This means they are confident that I know what I am doing. I have demonstrated to them through case studies, theoretical and self-awareness dissertations, my ability as well as having proven hundreds of hours of real time client work, which has been verified by a senior supervisor.

Training, qualifications & experience

Not all therapists are the same. Qualifications range from weekend online courses to University Post Graduate levels.

I am University of Leeds trained.

My qualifications and what they mean;

I graduated from Leeds University with a distinction in Integrated Psychotherapy and Counselling (Post Graduate Diploma) and I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Advanced Practice Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Bradford University. I hold a certificate in the Rewind Technique for PTSD/Phobias/Severe anxiety. Supervision Diploma from Leeds Psychotherapy Institute to enable me to Supervise other counsellors.

Integrative Psychotherapy/Counselling means I have been trained in many models of Psychotherapy so I tailor the therapy for each client, I do not believe that one concept of Psychotherapy suits all, how could it? We are all so very different.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is an approach to understanding our thinking which drives our behaviour. Therefore the therapy would be to explore and understand our behaviour and offer alternative thinking patterns to help you change your behaviour if you require alternative outcomes.

Certificate in Rewind Trauma Therapy

I completed training in London with Dr David Muss the expert in PTSD and Trauma for the highly successful Rewind technique for trauma/PTSD/Phobias/severe anxiety. The Rewind technique (also known as the Fast Phobia Cure or V/K Dissociation technique) is a startlingly effective method for treating post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks and phobias. Its a non-intrusive, safe method for detraumatising people.

Certificate in Couples Counselling

I also hold a certificate for counselling using Transactional Analysis Theory. This is used by many managerial training courses to help us understand the dynamics of relationships and the games which are played out between individuals.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Life is full of difficulties and mostly we manage, but sometimes we have problems, feeling depressed, stressed or anxious, feelings which cause us longer lasting distress and we find it difficult to cope. In this situation it is sometimes helpful to talk things over confidentially with an independent professional counsellor who is trained to neither judge nor advise but to help you to gain clarity and hope. Basically, make sense of how you are feeling and enable you to make changes in your life, if that is what you wish to do?

I hope this provides you with the information you need, if not please don't hesitate to contact me for a jargon free chat to see if counselling/psychotherapy is for your, or indeed I am the counsellor for you?

There is no cost obligation for this. I will gladly chat on the phone (07747054061) or email to see if I can help.

Alternatively have a look on my website: www.headspaceleeds.com  you can email me from there if you have any queries and I will gladly respond.
