About me
Hello, my name is Mairi Holmes.
I have a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and Diplomas in both Adult and Child Therapy.
I am also trained in EMDR a treatment for trauma and I specialise in providing Mindfulness training and workshops. I have also been trained in creative approaches and this way of working is also available to those who would wish that.
My approach to Counselling and Psychotherapy is Humanistic and Integrative and I offer both short and long term contracts.
My therapy room which is a warm, comfortable, non-judgemental and confidential space, is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, ten minutes walk from the centre of Inverness and the main bus and train stations.
Initial consultation
There are many issues that bring people to counselling including anxiety and low mood to family relationship struggles, work related issues, trauma and much more and if you haven't accessed counselling or psychotherapy previously, it can sometimes be difficult to know what to expect and where to begin.
At our initial consultation meeting I will endeavour to put you at ease, I will ask you to tell me a little about yourself and what issues have brought you to counselling, and what you would like to be different.
I will also tell you about the range of ways that I can work. I have been trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, and at this initial meeting if you decide you would like to work with me, together we can discuss these approaches and decide together which might be most helpful, and/or which approach you feel most drawn to. I will also explain about the professional code of ethics that I work to(www.bacp.co.uk) and the times in the week when I am available for appointments.
As a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist I believe that it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship rather than one theoretical orientation that is the most important aspect of successful therapeutic work.

Member organisations
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
