About me
Hello. I'm Madeleine.
If you are here then life might be feeling hard for you or someone you care about.
There may be tension in your relationships with family, friends or your partner; maybe your work or studies are not going well or perhaps you are dealing with a difficult experience or situation. As a result you could be feeling anxious, sad, overwhelmed or stuck.
If you are considering counselling, you are probably looking for a confidential space to talk about what is going on. I can offer this.
In my roles as a private therapist and a university counsellor, I have extensive of experience working with younger adults. I am warm and supportive and have a good understanding of kind of pressures you may be feeling right now.
Counselling
Counselling is a space where you can talk about whatever is causing you concern. It is a chance to press pause and focus on the things that are weighing you down.
Talking about difficult experiences can help you to figure out how you feel about them, see things afresh and learn more about yourself. Knowing yourself better can help you to find ways to deal with the problems you are facing. I am interested in really understanding you and your life; what's working and what's not.
What happens in the sessions?
In your first counselling session, I will ask you to let me know what has brought you to counselling now and what is feeling difficult at the moment. I will also be interested to know what you would like to get from your sessions. You may have specific goals for your sessions or you may want to start with how you are feeling and go from there.
Can I choose how many sessions I have?
Yes, is always your choice. I offer short and longer term counselling. I see most people for between 4 and 20 sessions. We can meet at a set time weekly or fortnightly or you can book sessions as and when you want them.
What kind of counselling do you offer?
I offer person centred counselling. This therapeutic approach focuses on creating a supportive environment where you can explore whatever you feel needs attention. My counselling style is conversational and my aim is to listen and respond to you in ways that you find helpful.
Contacting me
If you think I might be a good fit for you, feel free to email me. Please share a couple of lines about yourself and your availability, and we can take it from there. I warmly welcome any questions you might have about counselling, so do ask!

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
