Dr M. H. Louise Ivinson MRCPsych (retd). SENIOR COUPLE +ADULT PSYCHOTHERAPIST

I am a medically qualified Psychotherapist with nearly 30 years experience. I have worked in the NHS as a Psychiatrist and later as an NHS Consultant Psychotherapist. I left the NHS to look after my children and since then I have worked privately.
You may know that you are unhappy, anxious, angry or depressed. Or you may be feel empty, lost and unable to enjoy your life. You may harbour difficult feelings towards someone you love or you wish you could love more fully: a parent, a partner or your child. Or it may be an aspect of yourself that you don’t like.
Stuck and aware that you need more than a friend’s help or advice you are considering professional help. There are many practioners and therapists and many different therapies. As a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist my aim is to enable you to reach beneath the surface of your symptoms and to explore your inner world, populated by relationships both current and in the past. What lies beneath and within has a huge impact upon your current experience of yourself and your capacity to experience satisfaction.
I work with Individuals as well as with Couples.
Couple Therapy can help a couple who know that they are unhappy with each other and it can also reduce children’s exposure to parental rows and unhappiness. It can also help an individual who feels anxious and depressed.
I have worked with couples facing a wide range of difficulties, across the lifespan, from infertility, child bereavement, separation, divorce, infidelity and also illness including dementia. I have offered therapy to couples during acute crises as well as those with enduring relationship difficulties. I provide a safe, therapeutic space to think and talk and move towards a better understanding of their difficulties, with the aim of alleviating their distress.
I work from a discreet and purpose-built consulting room in south Manchester. You can view my website: https://louiseivinson.com/
Training, qualifications & experience
I graduated in medicine from the University of Dundee in 1984.
I worked as a Consultant Psychotherapist in the NHS offering Individual, Group and Couple Therapy. I have supervised Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists and other NHS and private practioners.
I qualified as a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1989 and continue as a retired member.
I went on to complete a 5 year training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy whilst working in the NHS Psychotherapy Department in Newcastle upon Tyne with an emphasis on long term Individual Psychotherapy.
I am a full member of the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) and the Scottish Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (SAPP).
My interest in Couple Therapy started over 25 years ago when I was part of a team which established an innovative NHS Couple Therapy service based upon the theoretical and clinical model of the Tavistock Clinic in London. As Consultant Psychotherapist in the NHS, I went on to develop similar services for couples in Cumbria and later in north Manchester along side ongoing work with individuals.
