About me
I am an experienced counsellor working in central Cheltenham, and offer short term and open ended counselling to individuals and to couples. I trained as a Person Centred Counsellor/Therapist at the University of Strathclyde under the professorship of Dave Mearns, and although I now integrate other counselling models into my practice, the Person Centred principles of counselling continue to form the foundation for my work with clients. I am also a trained EMDR Practitioner.
A Person Centred therapist is trained to offer their client the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard. This means that when we work together you will feel truly heard and understood, that our relationship is genuine and honest and that you are not being judged. You will feel safe to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour and to become confident in your value, thereby living a healthier and more fulfilling existence.
I also supervise other counsellors and have an advanced diploma in Counselling Supervision awarded by the National Counselling Society.
I am accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I adhere to their ethics. I am also on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I have also worked as a counselling lecturer at Stroud College and the Central College of Commerce in Glasgow.
I have a particular interest in working with people who are concerned about their relationship with food.

I have a Masters Degree in working with people with eating disorders which I studied for at the Tavistock Clinic in London, and was awarded by the University of East London.
I studied for my Post Graduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling at the University of Strathclyde and spent my formative years as a counsellor working in Glasgow. As well as working in mental health projects in deprived areas of the city, I also worked for agencies whose clients are affected by diagnoses of cancer and for the counselling service at the University of Strathclyde. I then worked for the Priory clinic in Glasgow for three years as an individual and group therapist, and lectured in counselling at the College of Commerce.
I have since worked for an organisation in Stroud whose clients present with a range of diagnoses including depression, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, self harming and personality disorders.
I have also undertaken additional training in CBT and in Solution Focused Therapy.
Prior to becoming a counsellor I spent many years working for a large corporate organisation in different roles. This has given me a valuable understanding of work related issues.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
