About me

At this current time I have available online or telephone appointments. I can usually offer prompt appointments within a week of your initial contact with me.

I'm aware it isn't always an easy task when searching for a therapist or to make the first initial contact.  I hope the following information is helpful and you would be very welcome to contact me for more information if needed.

I am an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I have over 18 years experience working as a qualified counsellor.

I have worked in varied settings as a counsellor including many GP surgeries throughout the Yorkshire area. More recently I provided specialist Counselling and psychological care for individuals and their families within a Hospice setting. I have experience of working with a wide spectrum of psychological difficulties and a strong interest working with people who are experiencing the psychological impact of change and loss.

I have extensive training in Counselling and Psychotherapeutic approaches and theories. I am committed to updating my professional and personal development on a regular basis and abide to the Values and Principles of the BACP Ethical Framework.

About the therapy I provide

I believe my role is to work with people in a process of self discovery and understanding. This may relate to many aspects of a persons' life or be triggered by experiences such as loss, change or past-trauma. Sometimes there is a less tangible, but important need to gain more insight in order to be able to live life to its full potential.

At your initial appointment we can discuss how counselling may be helpful to you and if it would be beneficial to make further appointments. I work with each person on an individual basis and the length of therapy will relate to your own unique needs.

Counselling is often considered a talking therapy, however sometimes it can be helpful to use other ways to express emotions and depth of feelings. I have experience of working creatively using creative art materials and methods in a therapeutic way. This can be of great benefit when words are not easily accessible to describe what you are thinking or feeling.

I do have regular working times and fees, however both can sometimes be flexible in specific circumstances.

I am also a qualified Clinical Supervisor of Counsellors and Professionals and welcome enquiries.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
