Hello and thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I am a caring, professional therapist with many years experience caring for those with a wide range of mental health and emotional needs. I am qualified in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Mental Health Nursing.
I have a genuine interest in people and their needs. I listen in a confidential, non-judgemental, relaxed manner to help people understand more about themselves and their problems. I give hope, empathy and support to help people feel better, happier, stronger and more able to cope.
My rates are competitive and I offer discount packages. I am based in Lisburn and there is free parking available.
What is CBT?
CBT is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is a talking therapy which has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of a wide range of problems.
Anyone can benefit from CBT. It is so effective it can be applied to everyday situations as well as to a range of disorders including anxiety, depression, bereavement, phobias, panic, relationship issues, sleep problems, low self-esteem, hearing voices, trauma, stress, assertiveness and obsessive compulsive disorder.
What does CBT involve?
I will offer you a private, confidential, non-judgemental environment where you can discuss your problems and difficulties. We will work together to understand your problems in terms of the way you think, feel and behave and the impact they have on your life. Often we think, feel and behave in a particuar way for a reason. This can be related to our childhood, life experiences and the circumstances we live in.
Together we will develop a shared understanding of how your difficulties developed and what keeps them going. We will then identify goals, steps and strategies to focus on. In between sessions, by doing self-help tasks, you can put into practice the things talked about in session. This will equip you with tools to be your own therapist and learn more helpful ways of coping with any future problems.

How long does CBT take?
Therapy can be from 6-20 sessions, but this is dependent on you and your individual problems, we will look at this together. Therapy is carried out at your individual pace, one step at a time.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a genuine interest in people and their emotional problems. I am committed to develop and deliver the best possible therapeutic outcomes for those I care for. I promote empathy, dignity and respect at all times. My effective communication and listening skills enable me to deal with people in times of distress.
I have worked for many years caring for those with depression, anxiety disorders, distress and a wide range of other difficulties. I have been employed in the private sector, NHS hospitals and community settings. Along with my Post-Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, I am a qualified Mental Health Nurse and have a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies.
I continue to develop myself further by participating in regular courses and research. Recent events attended include Mindfulness, Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), Compassion Focussed Therapy, Generalised Anxiety Disorder Workshop, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Workshop, Difficult to Treat Depression Workshop and a Health Anxiety Workshop.
I receive regular supervision in order to maintain best practice.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and the British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), I adhere to their ethical framework for good practice.
