About me

Hi I’m Lyanne, I’m down to earth, warm, non-judgmental and straight talking. I offer short-term therapy, usually 6-20 weeks, with a focus on helping you resolve a specific issue, or to achieve a particular goal.

Please check your spam/junk for my response to your enquiry, as they tend to end up there first time, thanks.

If you’ve experienced a traumatic event, and struggle with the idea of discussing it with a therapist, while at the same time desperately want to reduce it’s impact, there is a way to recover without having to describe what happened to you.

Do you find yourself jumping at the smallest thing, reacting to anything that remotely reminds you of the trauma, or having nightmares or flashbacks? These are symptoms of post-traumatic stress and they can usually be significantly reduced or stopped completely, with effective, trauma focused treatment.

While some people need to discuss their traumatic experiences in order to heal, many avoid therapy because the thought of discussing it is so uncomfortable.

The rewind technique is a simple one; it involves some preparation work to ensure you are comfortable and have strategies in place to relax, then you are coached through a visualization process which involves dissociating you from being ‘in’ the memory while imagining watching a film of the event from a safe distance & rewinding it several times, with subtle changes at each step. This is thought to facilitate memory reconsolidation, whereby your brains survival response to the memory (fight/flight/freeze) is altered, refiling it under ‘past/unpleasant’ instead of ‘current/urgent!’.

You can read more about the rewind technique and my research into it on my website. It’s not for everyone, so you’re welcome to have a free 30 minute consultation to discuss it with me and find out if it's suitable for you.

I use rewind technique (and other types of therapy) to help people struggling with phobias, PTSD and other anxiety related issues, however this profile is dedicated to rewind technique, to reach those who wouldn’t otherwise seek help, to let you know that you don’t have to disclose details of your trauma to recover, and that there is another way.

I work integratively, using a blend of counselling to explore what’s troubling you, and psychotherapeutic tools to help you learn ways to make the changes you want. These include; Psycho-education to help you understand how your mind works, behavioural and cognitive approaches to change negative thinking patterns, trauma based techniques if required (EMDR, Rewind Technique for Trauma, EFT tapping) and in some cases, Hypnotherapy. Exactly which approaches we will use will depend on your personality and preferences.

If you’re looking specifically for online therapy to help with anxiety based issues such as OCD, phobias, trauma or anxiety, you can visit my specialist website at www.onlineanxietytherapist.co.uk to read more.

I have a specific interest in and experience of working with emergency services staff with PTSD, especially those who do not wish to discuss the traumatic details with a therapist. There are ways to resolve trauma without going over and over the details, specifically the rewind technique for trauma, which I've researched for my MA & found it to be suitable for frontline staff in particular. I am currently taking on clients from this group for anonymised case studies to publish. Please ask me about this if it's something you're interested in.

I'm also a qualified Hypnotherapist so am happy to add this into your sessions to help you relax or explore issues at a deep level.
