I'm an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist offering individual therapy to young adults and adults of all ages in Richmond, London, both in English and Portuguese.
My experience has been gained over a number of years in the NHS, at a top London University, in a Bereavement Charity and in private practice. I am a registered and an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists.
I see adult clients with a range of issues including bereavement, depression, anxiety and relationship problems, and specific issues faced by University Students.
I chose counselling as a second career later in life. As part of my training, I had to have counselling myself. It felt hugely helpful to be able to discuss my feelings openly in a confidential and non judgemental environment. While I talked to my therapist I gained new insight into relationships and my feelings.
What worked for me was a warm empathetic stance, rather than a clinical, cold and detached approach. This empathy made me feel truly heard and understood. I felt validated. I found that it is these conditions that enable my clients to take responsibility for their part in the dynamics of their relationships, and gain awareness of choices they can make.
The important thing in therapy is that you should never feel pressurised to change. My clients feel a gradual acceptance towards the issues they have been experiencing, which they claim would not be achieved without counselling. They come to the sessions to relieve the pain they are feeling and are then able to move forward.
Psychotherapy and counselling enable my clients to fulfil their potential and live a richer and more balanced life.
There are many psychotherapy approaches. My integrative training means that I can incorporate them in my practice, thus benefitting each individual client.
How to get started
Please call or email me to arrange an initial appointment. In our initial session, we will discuss what brings you to counselling and will make an estimate of how many sessions you might need. This will be provisionally and mutually agreed but can be changed at any time.
